3/16/2008 - Hazel was turned in to the shelter by the family members of her owner, who unfortunately had to go into a nursing home. We can only imagine how Hazel's world not only felt shattered after being taken from her owner, but we know that the "culture shock" of being taken to a shelter and put in a cold metal cage with dogs barking all around her, took a toll on her breathing. Hazel has a collapsed trachea and feeling as if the bottom fell out, caused her body and mind to stress, which caused her to cough non-stop, which then, irritated her throat to the point that it narrowed down her airway and she started having difficulty breathing. Thankfully, the special people at the shelter knew that Hazel was a wonderful girl and it was through no fault of hers that she ended up in the Throwaway Land. Due to Hazel's breathing difficulties, the shelter could not put Hazel up for adoption, but they also didn't want to send her to Rainbow Bridge either, so what did they do? They called Carly's Castle because they knew that we would never leave a lost soul behind.

Hazel is doing very well, but if she should happen to have a problem with her breathing, we have medication on hand that will help her to relax and help open up her bronchial's so that she can breath easier. As long as Hazel doesn't get overheated or stressed, then she doesn't have any problems with her breathing. Hazel hangs out with the other senior princesses and is not a problem whatsoever. She is a very lovely little lady and although she is older, she is pretty active for her age. Hazel loves meal times and doesn't hesitate to let you know if she feels that you are running a few minutes behind in getting her fed. Just like a southern lady, Hazel has a very soft bark and is just as easy going as a lazy summer afternoon. If you are interested in opening up your heart and home to a very special Southern Belle, please feel free to fill out our on-line adoption application on our website - www.YorkieHavenRescue.com.
