My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

KARLA is a 4 year old chocolate intact female Lab who weighs 52 pounds. She's a very animated and frisky girl with lots of energy and two speeds – play and sleep. She loves to be played with and is very curious about every sound and thing. She loves her toys especially ones that she can toss in the air or run around with in her mouth. Karla gets along with other dogs well and the only problem is she wants them to play with her (great for active dogs not so great with older dogs). Karla is not a city dog ~ she comes from a very rural area and has been fostered in the suburbs. She needs a yard to run and play in and would not do well in a city environment or a condo/ apartment/town house. She is not a dog for a new owner or one that wants a couch potato. She's approved for kids aged 10+.

Update (10/11): Karla loves attention, dogs, and to play fetch. Karla will come, sit and stay when asked and she will wait for her food. She is house trained and crate trained. Karla MUST have a fenced yard to play in and an active lifestyle. Karla would enjoy a young playmate and is good with dogs of all ages.

Update: (10/6): Karla is well trained and has a good activity level. She loves to play with other dogs. She settle nicely and is fine in the house.

Update (9/29): Karla is great with other dogs and is enjoying living with another young dog. She and the other dog are best buds, and play and sleep with each other. Karla needs a fenced yard as she loves to run and play fetch. She's has done well left uncrated in the house for a short period of time and she doesn't get on the furniture.

From her foster: - Karla is about 4 years old but thinks she is about 2 as she probably never had a chance to be a puppy before Lab Rescue got her. She needs set boundaries in the household and this will take time and training, but she is smart and a quick learner and just loves to get attention and petting for doing well. In short, Karla is a beautiful, playful, loving Lab who will make someone a very loving companion.

Karla sits and waits for her food and has learned to stay. Once she learns something is a no, she normally will leave it alone. Karla definitely needs a fenced yard but likes walked at least once a day so she continues to socialized with people and objects outside. She has become used to the leash and only pulls when she sees another dog or human. Karla loves belly rubs and basically any kind of attention.. Her coat has become almost sable like and is quite beautiful as is she. Karla is almost puppy-like and will chase anything (she has a fascination with cars so strong control is necessary on a walk when cars are nearby). A stern no or “unhhh” sound will slow her down and make her listen. Karla, in short, is a work in progress but with lots of love and attention she’ll continue to improve .

Update (6/24): Karla seems to be handling it all in stride. Now that we have her in a crate in the family room, she feels more included and seems to be calming down. In addition to the screened porch, we are letting her go from the crate to the laundry room for her meals without a leash. She’s a lovely girl, just a diamond in the rough because no one taught her any self-control. She is learning to sit more and then she gets petted. She is a sweet girl and starved for affection who has a lot of puppy in her. She will need an owner who can give her lots of attention and patience, and not expect to let her run free in the house, without supervision.
She hasn’t had any chewing errors, but hasn’t had much of a chance. My son came over on Saturday with his wife and their baby daughter (she’s 8 months), Catherine. Karla was fascinated by Catherine.

We are hoping she can find a forever home that will help her grow into a more calm, but energetic girl. I’m hoping her leg will heal to where she could get some vigorous exercise (perhaps even jogging).
