08/18/2014 UPDATED BIO: DAKOTA is an adorable 17 month old maltese mix who weighs a chubby 4.5 lbs; she would be a healthier weight if she lost at least 1/2 lb. Dakota is being fostered in The Villages, FL.
Dakota's owner felt that she would be happier in a home with fewer puppies; she is a typical puppy in her behavior, but tends to be more on the mellow side than most puppies her age. She was pee-pee-pad trained within two days in Foster Mom's home - how smart is that?
Dakota loves to be in FM's lap, belly-up, for all those wonderful belly rubs. She sleeps right next to FM, which breaks all the rules in the foster home - foster dogs usually sleep on the floor in the bedroom, while the resident doggies can sleep in the bed. What a stinker!
Dakota is not leash-trained and FM will be working on that once Kota feels more comfortable. She is shy when first meeting folks and needs to have time to adjust to new surroundings; she has not been well-socialized and is getting used to lots of sounds outside, the moo's of the cows in the field across from her foster home, and also the donkeys who bray at night. Dakota will soon be spayed and have her vaccinations brought up-to-date and will then be ready to be adopted into a loving home.
NOTE: Due to her small size, Dakota can only go into a home with children 12 years or older. No exceptions!
