Facts about Amik

  • Breed: Other/Unknown
  • Color: Gray
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Medium
  • Sex: Male
Amik, yearling Caspian horse. Only 900 of these horses in the world, with about 200 in the USA. This young stud colt is gorgeous. He looks like a miniature Arabian. He should mature to 12 hands.

These little horses can jump 5' high from a standing position. They don't look like ponies but are conformed just like horses. These rare beauties were thought to be extinct (not quite the word to use for domestic horses, but the only one available) for 1300 years. They can carry 150 pounds because their scapula is the same width as a full grown 15 hand horse. Amazing. They have an extra molar, unlike any modern day horse, and 5 elongated vertebra in their necks, giving them that long, elegant neck. Simply amazing animals.

Amik's adoption fee is $2500 (A few years ago he would have sold at a breeder's for $20,000 or more.)

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption fees are determined by the individual animal. We take into consideration its age, training that we may add, and veterinary financials that the animal has required, although the greater the veterinary investment does not necessarily mean the higher the adoption fee. Animals that have been spayed or neutered but are excellent adoptable animals in every way and are young may have the spay or neuter fee added into their adoption fee, and there may not be any other fee involved. Any animal advertised for adoption will have their adoption fee listed with the animal. There is an adoption application, and we may require a home check or photos of where the animal will be kept on a daily basis. We do require an adoption contract, which specifies that the animal will be given shelter, daily cleanout, water, food, veterinary maintenance and care, friendship and companionship, and that if those daily requirements cannot be maintained, that the animal will be returned to Hearts & Hands Animal Rescue, or H n H is to approve any new home that the animal's current caretakers would like it to be adopted out to, at no charge to the rescue.
