My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Quen has been with us since August of 2014 and is an absolutely sweet and wonderful dog. Quen needs a parent who can stick with his training and be firm with him when he gets super excited (he loves to jump on his loved ones when he sees them). Quen absolutely loves chew toys and fetch with the tennis ball, and he's a great hiking and running buddy--he prefers to stay on dry land, though, and hates going swimming. Quen loves to cuddle and will put his whole body in your lap, even if you're in a small chair. Quen tends to love everyone he meets, but will sometimes growl at strange men--he's usually fine once he gets to know them, though. Quen has been great with kids so far, but he's recommended for ages 13 and up because he jumps in excitement. Quen can be both energetic and lazy--he'll run with you and then curl up for a Netflix binge.

Quen does go crazy about outdoor cats and wildlife, but has worked really hard on controlling himself when he sees them at the window. Quen sometimes likes playing with dogs, but is VERY picky about his friends and needs careful, slow introduction--in foster care, he wasn't doing well with other dogs, so he's working with his foster mom now to resocialize with dogs to a point where he isn't fearful of them. However, until our trainers "clear" him with other dogs, he can only go to a house where he will be the only pet. (Anyone interested in Quen would have the full support of our training team pre- and post-adoption).

Quen is listed as "special needs" because he requires allergy medication daily. All of the preliminary work and testing has been done with a veterinarian, but his medication costs about $35/month through our organization.

Quen is Canine Good Citizen prepped, crate-trained, house-broken, and can even kiss on command.

Quen is receiving obedience and socialization training at a Virginia correctional center. To learn more about the Pen Pals program, please visit our website at www.fetchacure.com.
