Alleluia, another Basset Hound. Fred is a 6-month-old, Basset pup, who was an unclaimed stray – unwanted but not for long! We can only assume someone saw this irresistible face and did not put any thought into what it takes to raise a Basset puppy. So many people are under the misconception that Basset Hounds are very low-key, inactive dogs. They might be ... when they are old. However, a Basset Puppy is going to give you a run for your money. Fred, true to his breed, has a powerful nose that will pick up interesting scents. When this happens he may not hear his human – Bassets have very selective hearing – and continue his journey to investigate the scent. For this reason, Fred needs a completely fenced (Basset-proof) yard. Although, Fred may enjoy his naps as he gets older, he is quite capable of going for long walks and even enjoying canine sports such as tracking and agility. Bassets have the reputation of being stubborn because they tend not to respond to commands; they do respond, just a little slower. Fred is not an apartment or condo dog, his vocalizing might be music to a Basset lover’s ears but not to all. He must go to a home where he will get lots of human companionship during the day. He is a puppy and he should not be alone more than a few hours. Fred gets along very well with other dogs and would do well with another canine companion. A guardian experienced with Bassets would be ideal for this gorgeous boy. If you love Bassets and are ready to commit to this pup with the funny personality, please fill in the Adoption Form.
