My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SAMMY (11-12 year old neutered male)

Hello! I’m Sammy, and I’m a happy, cheerful guy with a particular passion for tennis balls. I love chasing them, playing fetch with them, and chewing on them. I am also a great tennis ball detective – I don’t want to leave any tennis balls unfound anywhere so I take it upon myself to let you know where any lost or hidden balls might be.

I’ve had some ear infections in the past, so I don’t hear well, but if you have a tennis ball, I’ll follow you anywhere! I also need to take thyroid medicine every day and get drops in my ears twice a week to keep more infections away. Because of my thyroid condition, I was pretty heavy when I first came to SEVA GRREAT, but I’m now well on my way to a healthy weight.

Even though I’m not a young pup anymore, I am still active for my age. I like to go on walks and meet other people and dogs, but I don’t have to go far. My foster parents take me for walks twice a day, and each walk is one-half a mile to a mile long. They also throw my tennis ball for me a few times when we go out to do business other times during the day, and even do some tossing in the house. That’s all I need to be happy.

I don’t pull on my leash on walks, and I don’t need to be on a leash in an unfenced yard. I do love water, though, so I will head for a nearby pond or pool if I see one. When we come across other people or dogs on walks, I smile, wag my tail, and politely approach them. I love to meet and say hello to the other dogs. I also like sniffing for messages in the grass and leaving my own, so our walks are at a leisurely pace.

I like and get along well with people, children of all ages, other dogs, and even cats. I don’t pay much attention to the cats here, but I’ve never acted overeager or aggressive toward them. While I like being near you in the house, I am not a Velcro dog.

My foster mom says I’m very easy going and enthusiastic and that I have good manners. She says I’d do fine in a house with cats or other small animals, and I get along great with my Golden foster brother (but I always want the tennis ball he has and bark to let him know).

I like car rides and am content to rest quietly in the back seat. I also don’t need a crate, and I am reliable and responsible if left loose in the house while the people are away.

My foster parents say I’m an easy Golden and would be a terrific addition to just about any family. Would you like to meet me?
