My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! My name is BOONE and I give the term “low rider” a new meaning. I have a style that is all my own. I was told recently at an adoption event that I must have been assembled by a committee. That may be because I am a Basset Hound/ Shepherd mix. I have the short bowed legs of a Basset and the coloring of a shepherd. True to a Basset personality, I am a sweet, mild mannered, affectionate dude. I am 5 years old and weigh in at a healthy 48 pounds. My foster family cannot believe that I was surrendered to a high kill shelter in Southern Indiana. Unfortunately, my owners were moving and I was not invited to come along. Owner surrendered dogs do not have any hold time and can be put down as soon as room is needed. When Rover Rescue heard about me, they revved up their engines and got me to safety in Illinois. I have been told that my original owner’s loss is going to be a great gain for my furever family. That is because I am a great dog! Talk about easy street! I get along with all the two and four legged beings in my temporary home. I am a lovable companion that has a happy go lucky personality. I will nudge you with my nose if I think that you need to pay attention to me. I can be persistent, but I wouldn’t say that I am obnoxious. I have adjusted very well with just a few fine tunings. I have learned that counter surfing and checking out the items on the kitchen table are not acceptable. My good behavior awards me with treats. I have also learned that jumping on people does not make them happy. Sometimes I just cannot contain my happiness and excitement to see my people. I am working really hard at being a model canine. My foster family is thrilled that I am housebroken. I have never had an accident. Yeah! I am crate trained, but since I am respectful of possessions in the house, I am never in it. I sleep on the floor in the master bedroom, but I do have to admit that I am a morning person. I like to get up early and get my day started sometimes even before 6:00 a.m. Usually that is not too much of a problem for my foster mom who is not an early riser, except for weekends. It is a good thing that I will fall back to sleep after going out in the early morning on Saturday and Sundays. I love, love, love to go for car rides. I prefer to sit shotgun and stick my whole head out the window. I know I have to look hilarious with my ears flying straight out like airplane wings. I get very excited when we go to the dog park. I love to play with the other dogs, but I do not care much for the pond that the dogs are allowed to swim. I can have selective hearing when it comes to being called. If my nose is to the ground, which it often is, I will not always respond to my name. I have learned when the word treat is mentioned, I can magically hear once again. The only other thing I probably should tell you is that I despise getting my toenails cut. I strongly suggest that you have a vet or groomer do that nasty job! I am not keen on having my feet played with, but my foster mom has decided that I should get over that vice. She plays with my feet whenever she pets me, but she thinks I need to go to a home where the kids understand my hang up and are respectful of my feet fetish. If I have got your wheels spinning and you would like to find out more about me, BOONE, please call Jen at 630-801-3294. The adoption fee for BOONE is $200 and includes up to date vetting and a certificate for a free microchip. http://youtu.be/Ha3QVH4NvfQ
