My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Breed: Austrailian Shepherd/Colllie mix
Age: 2-3 years
Weight: 60 pounds
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Being tested
Good with kids: Yes
Energy Level: High-Medium

Rusty was living on a farm with another Aussie. Both boys were unneutered. Because they were unneutered, they would run off together and hours. Well, that's what happens folks when you have unneutered, active dogs. Well it turns out the owner kept Rusty's brother and Rusty was brought to the shelter. At first I said to our southern volunteer, "Poor Rusty. That is so sad". She turned it around and said, "No. Rusty is the lucky one. Feel sorry for his brother". It's true. We're going to place Rusty in a home where he is loved, inside a house where he will be pet and cuddled, and receive tons of attention. His poor brother will be living outdoors tethered to a tree. This is probably why his nose is sunburned. It's very red right now. Rusty is absolutely a genuine boy. He follows our southern volunteer around the fenced in area of the boarding facility. He want to be close to his human. Rusty is a submissive pup. He falls to his back and rolls over for belly rubs. He engages with other dogs and loves to play with toys. If you'd like to be the family to show Rusty what it's like to be loved, please contact sassynpeaceful@gmail.com.

Unless otherwise indicated, all Double Dog Rescue dogs have received the following before being available for adoption:

Thorough veterinary examination

All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (kkennel cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming

Spay/Neuter

All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.

If any dog shows any signs of disease or ailment, DDR vets the dog until he or she has a clean bill of health to the best of our knowledge. This includes anything from being treated for Heartworm, Broken Leg, Cherry Eye, Torn ACL, Upper Respiratory etc.)

NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 4 months from the last Heartworm treatment.
