We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

Rusty is a darling Pekingese/Chihuahua mix who was rescued from a shelter. He is about six years old and he weighs 8.5 pounds. Rusty gets along with almost everyone. He’s great with dogs of all sizes, lives with cats in his foster home and he is good with very gentle kids 6 and older. Rusty is house trained when let out on a schedule but he has an unfortunate ability to scale a six foot chain link fence quickly so one must keep a close eye on him when he is out in the yard. Rusty enjoys having someone around and he is a real easy keeper. Rusty is a cuddler and is playful too. He is with Happy Hound Rescue, a 501c3 all volunteer rescue. His adoption fee is $350 to cover part of his vet costs. This includes his neuter, all vaccines, heartworm tested negative and is on prevention for heartworms and fleas/ticks, and has a HomeAgain microchip.
