My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***COURTESY POST***

Maya is a 3 year old German Shepherd. Shots up to date. Fixed, female

Very intelligent, her sister is in the police force. I am moving to apt and work 12 hours shifts; she has a lot of energy and needs mental and physical stimulation. Prey driven, not good with cats.
Has had some training but I am not consistent with it. She can master the basic commands of sit stay leave it. But recall is an issue and once she is set on something it is hard to break her away from it. Ie. Chasing squirrels in the yard, very driven when she decides she wants something, it is hard to break her mentally away from it.

Maya is not socialized with other dogs so new dogs (especially smaller ones) she tends to be semi aggressive towards, no history of biting but she will try to be the dominant dog. Her hackles will go up and she will try to fight, but it is fear aggression, with no biting. Although she lives with another dog now (smooth collie) so once she knows the dog she is fine. And she has gone to dog parks with previous trainer and was fine, when watched and intervened when she gets aggressive and the behavior and her stopped. But he was a dominant male who intervened.

Maya has gotten out of the yard via jumping the fence to get dogs walking on the street, very head strong. She responds better to alpha males. no food aggression. But we do feed the two dogs in separate rooms. But you can take food away and bones, treats out of her mouth. She is extremity quick to learn will learn new commands within a matter of minutes. Maya tends to mouth when excited, but have been able to control that by ignoring her when I come in the house.

Maya likes her crate and sleeps in it, it is always open and she will go in on her own.
I am not sure about small children; she has never been exposed to them. She may mouth if they chase or poke her.

If alpha role is not taken she will take it. There is no one in the house now who has true alpha role with her. She is best with routines and bonds to one person. She will not jump or counter surf.

Maya will honestly make a great companion with the right owner. She came from a friend to me at 6 months old, he was moving to an apt and knew she would be too big to handle.
