My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Saul is our special needs sweetie. He is a one year old English Coonhound who is mostly blind. He can see some shadows but that is all. He has been evaluated by a specialist and there is no further treatment required. The blindness most likely occurred from some kind of trauma.

Despite his challenges, Saul is a sweetheart. He LOVES people and actively seeks affection. He is still getting used to the loss of vision and needs some help adjusting to new places, but with patience, he settles in nicely. He loves to go on car rides and is working on his leash skills. He is also wonderful with other dogs and would do best in a home with another dog he could follow. He enjoys having the security of another canine companion around. He is also ok with cats.

Saul is a little unsure in a crate, but has made great improvement in the last few weeks. He is almost fully housebroken. Because of the newness of the loss of vision, we are seeking a home with no children under the age of 7. He is great with kids, but small children can be unpredictable and for a dog adjusting to loss of sight, that can be intimidating.

All of our pets are spayed/neutered, HW-, and fully vaccinated prior to adoption.

A copy of our adoption application can be found on our website - www.openheartsrescue.org. Please fill out and forward via email to openheartsrescue@yahoo.com. Meet and greets are only scheduled after an approved application is received. The adoption fee on our dogs is $125.00. We are a foster-based, volunteer organization and answer all emails as quickly as we can.

Thank you for your interest in one of our great dogs!
