My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Aspen now 2.5 - 3yrs old is being returned to rescue almost 1 year after being adopted (9/13/13) due to having occasional accidents in the home and a couple of altercations with her husky sister. We are trying to figure out more about possible reasons for her having accidents as she was house trained when she was adopted and triggers for the altercations that started a couple of months ago. In addition, we've learned she is more active than originally thought so she may not be as laid back as she once was. She is going back to her original foster home and we'll post updates as we get them on her. Unfortunately since we lost our profile page and hadn't kept up her album at the same time, we don't have many pics after her recovery. We've uploaded a few new ones we received today.

We rescued Aspen from Ft. Bend Animal Services on 1/28/13. Aspen came to us with what we thought was just a need for medical treatment for a bulge by her leg after being hit by a car. Once we took her in to see a vet, we found out the trauma that she suffered from the accident was much worse than we could have ever thought. She has a broken pelvis, broken tail (which will have to be amputated), a dislocated hip, and a hernia that is growing so quickly the vet was worried about it damaging her intestines. She was rushed into surgery 1/30 to get her all fixed up so she can start her path to recovery. On 2/14 she had FHO surgery to fix her dislocated hip. On 3/15 - She has practically recovered and using her back leg easily now and only lifts it when she gets really excited and runs fast! She is still doing some in-home physical therapy to continue building that leg but she is doing great!! It will take awhile for all of her fur to grow back in but she is a happy girl who is thankful for all of you for giving her a chance and not giving up on her!!

She is now available for adoption and looking for her fur-ever home! She is dog and cat friendly, gets along with the human kids too. She is a love, mush bug and likes to be around her foster mom. House and crate trained altho she can be a little protective of the crate when she's in it but they're working on that even tho she has spent a lot of recovery time in there. She loves to hang out, run around a bit and wag her little nub!! She is a happy girl!!

If you are interested in pursuing an adoption and you live in state, please complete the application (links provided below). The process includes a vet check, calling references and doing a home visit.

http://www.texassleddogrescue.org/web_documents/tsdr_application.pdf
or
https://www.formstack.com/forms/?1632205-WX2Zb144ZP

Please note the following:
- We rarely do out of state adoptions. (Exceptions can be discussed but will be based on previous big dog experience and will require same adoption process.)
- Children in the home or that visit often must be at least 6 years of age. (Exceptions can be discussed but will be based on previous big dog experience.)
- Adoption donation is due at the time of adoption. Puppies under 1 year are $300. Dogs 1 year to 7 years are $200 and dogs over 7 years are $150. As this is a donation, it will be non-returnable if dog is returned to rescue.
- Dogs are not placed on a "first come, first serve" basis but rather the best home for the dog.

All dogs placed by TSDR will be:
-spayed/neutered
-vaccinated for distemper/parvo, rabies, and bordetella
-heartworm tested and treated if needed
-microchipped
-other vetting as deemed needed
-New owners will receive copies of all available vet information and must agree to keep them current on all of the above.
