My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 08/14/14: Chibi is a 10 month old, 5.5 pound "Shorkie" (Shih-tsu/Yorkie) puppy, currently being fostered in Leesburg, FL.

Chibi just had her stitches out and only has to wear that silly cone around her neck for 2 more days. She is so happy to have her ears rubbed, and to snuggle in close to FM's neck where she couldn't quite reach before. There is some inflammation around that long scar on her belly so she will try to rest some more while everything continues to heal. Resting is really hard to ask of such a happy and playful puppy! Staying calm and quiet might be harder for Chibi than the surgery itself.

The doctor says the liver biopsy showed some degeneration with non-specific change. He doesn't think it is Hepatic Microvascular Dysplasia, but rather it was most likely caused by an environmental factor that poisoned this little lady. It is still possible that she has some underlying liver disease so it will be best for Chibi to have her bile acids tested with her regular check ups throughout her life to make sure they normalize. Other than a little extra testing at her annual vet visit, we hope she will get to live as a normal and healthy dog from here on out. We can start slowly trialing her on regular dog food and see if she shows any neurological symptoms again, like getting super sleepy or walking a little wobbly. If she does, she will simply need to return to her strict diet of L/D food and no treats!

**People sometimes forget that treats count as food too. Chibi loves her L/D food and thrives on kisses and praise, so she doesn't miss or need treats anyway. She loves it so much, she buries her whole face in the bowl at mealtime and all the other dogs are pretty jealous.

Chibi really loves to make you proud! We throw her a little praise party every time she potties outside and she bounds back with a giant smile on her face. While she does still have accidents inside on a regular basis, she continues to greatly improve with her use of the pee pads. What a smart gal!

Updated Bio 8/1/2014: Sweet baby Chibi is now back at FM’s house spending as much time as possible in a cozy nest of blankets as she tries to heal from her big surgery. She has a long row of stitches on her belly and has to wear that crazy plastic cone on her head for 2 weeks. Despite all of her discomfort, Chibi is already giving kisses and has even been seen wagging her tail a couple of times. It is clear she is not feeling her best as she whimpers when she moves too fast, but we will be spending the next couple of weeks snuggling and giving her all the love and spoiling she needs to recover. The doctor had to open up her whole belly to look all around her liver for that pesky shunt. While she was in surgery he also got her spayed and pulled her left over baby teeth. The good news… there was no shunt! The bad news… that means we don’t know yet what has caused her previous health problems. Poor baby! He sent off a bit of her liver for biopsy and we will wait for those results. The doctor explained Chibi’s elevated lab results could be from a few different issues including micro vascular dysplasia or exposure to a toxin. We will continue to investigate and provide her whatever care regimen is needed to be healthy and happy. Everyone’s positive thoughts and good wishes for Chibi might be leading her to a healthier life than any of us could have imagined (even the doctors!). Keep it up everyone. Let’s all hope for the best and make her our little miracle!

Chibi- Initial Bio 7/19/14 Chibi is a 9.5 month old Shih Tzu/Yorkie (shorkie) puppy, weighing only 4.5 pounds. She is being fostered in Clearwater, FL.

Chibi just came to us yesterday from Georgia. Her owner very sadly surrendered her because she is a sick little puppy girl who needs a liver shunt surgery as soon as possible. Her owner was unable to afford this expensive surgery and knew that in order for Chibi to survive she had to surrender her to us, so we could help her. Now we are reaching out to you to help United Yorkie Rescue get this expensive surgery for this adorable, sweet little puppy. Please give what you can, even $1 will help us pay for Chibi's surgery. Without the surgery Chibi will not make it.

She is so full of love and life, just an angel. Please help us help Chibi. Chibi won't be available for adoption until after her surgery and healing process. Please watch for updates on our newest puppy, Chibi.
