My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Kirbie the Shih Tzu and I'd like to tell you my story. I'm about 5 years old and I was living with an elderly person with a bunch of other animals. She really couldn't take care of us all, so her family asked Adopt-A-Pet to find some of us a new home. I came to Adopt-A-Pet with my sister Mimsie and a nice lady came along and wanted to take her home. So, I looked at her with my sad little eyes, and next thing I knew I was going home too! Yea! Well, unfortunately, that really didn't turn out so well. Though the lady meant well, she just wasn't the type to be able to handle the trials and tribulations of TWO new dogs at once, and so back to the pet store I went.

Though I was neglected in my prior life, I'm ready to make a new start. I was pretty stressed and scared at being shuffled around so much at first - first I was moved to a temporary foster home, then to the vet for vaccinations, then to the groomer, then to another vet to get my teeth cleaned and fixed up, then to the pet store, then to the lady's house, and now back to the pet store - whew! It's enough to make anyone dizzy! But I need to make you aware of how sweet and docile I really am. I'm learning to adapt to my new surroundings slowly but surely. All I really want to do is be with the people here, follow them around and wait for a chance to climb into a lap for belly rubs. There's a lot of other animals here, too, and though they don't really bother me I think I would be happiest FINALLY having a person all to myself! I just love being the center of attention. But if the right person came along who already had a four-legged friend, I guess I would concede.

I'm looking for a person this time that will give me time to adapt and learn the house rules and potty routine. This being in a new place every week thing is for the birds! If someone will just invest a little time and patience in me, I will be the most loyal companion you'll ever find.

Kirbie's adoption fee of $300 includes the following: vet exam, heartworm test, DAPP (distemper combo) vaccination, bordetella vaccination, rabies vaccination, dental cleaning, microchip, deworming, flea and tick prevention, heartworm preventative, and neuter.

You can meet Kirbie at Wilmette Pet, 625 Green Bay Road, anytime during store hours 7 days a week. (847-251-6750 www.wilmettepetcenter.com). Although you may want to adopt him on the spot, please know that you will have to go through the application process first.
