Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi my name is Cookie and I am a lovable and cute 2 year old Shih Tzu mix who weighs just over 5lbs. I ended up in a rural pound as a stray and no one came to claim me. I was a mess when I was found and needed a lot of cleaning up. My rescuers took me to a groomer and got me all fancy looking. I had to be pretty much shaved down but my hair will grow back and be all silky and shiny now that I’m on a good quality food. I don’t know why I wasn’t claimed but I really think it is for the best. I need a home where I can be well cared for and loved. I have that in my foster home and I am so happy to be here, but a forever home is what I am looking for now.
I like to spend my days lounging and relaxing in one on my many favourite spots; my pillow, the back of the comfy chair where I am able to look out a window, and a warm lap. If it's sunny and I am outside you'll find me sunbathing. When I am not in relax mode you can find me following my favourite person around and going for super long walks. I might be small but I can walk forever. I am OK with short walks too though. I’m not a dog that demands a lot of exercise but I will go for as long as you want and the more exercise I get the better it is for my overall health.
Unlike some dogs that are small like me I am very quiet. I don't like to bark unless of course my person is teasing me about going for a walk... let's just go already I tell him! Also I am very proud of being house trained. No accidents for this girl. I crate well and sleep in my crate when my family is away from the home.
I live with a cat but since I am so laid back I am fine with that (even when she tries to play with me.. silly cat) I have even been known to cuddle up with the cat on occasion. I will admit that I am a bit timid when I see big dogs. I am fine with watching them from a distance where I can't get stepped on. I would be ok with small dogs though as long as they are relaxed like me. No hyper dog friends for me please, I like a peaceful life. I was found with a small dog and we were penned together at the pound and we were fine together. He found rescue too so we both got very lucky!! One guilty pleasure I have is chasing chipmunks if I spot one. I've never caught one.....yet.
I do very well around children and enjoy all the attention I get from them. I would be ok in a home with children if they are kind and old enough to know to be gentle with me and not pull my tail or anything like that. I love to cuddle and if I catch you sitting on the couch I'll make sure to sneak my way onto your lap for some lap time. I just love that! I want to be with a family that takes me with them on outings as I am great in the car and love to go places. I eagerly hop into the car and will ride either in my crate or on the seat, whatever you prefer.
When it comes time for bed I happily go to my crate when asked and quickly get to dreaming of running through a field with my ears in the breeze. You won’t hear a peep out of me all night. I’m a good sleeper!! I would be happy sleeping with my person too if they wanted me on the bed, that is totally up to my new family. I know some basic obedience skills and am continuing to learn in my foster home. I come when I’m called and I’m starting to catch on to this “sit” business but “shake a paw” is a work in progress. I have also been introduced to a game called “fetch” and I think it is a lot of fun and I like playing that game. I would love a family that will take me to dog school so that I can keep learning and can get socialization in a safe environment. Even though I’m little doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be well trained!! I am smart so teach me well and I will be happy! I’ve been told by my foster family that I’m a good dog and that makes me happy. They think that I will be a wonderful addition to a loving family and that anyone who adopts me will be super lucky. That makes me happy. I just want to love a family and have them love me back…forever. If you want a little non shedding dog and you have a lap that needs a dog then we need to meet!!
All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and microchipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.
