My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Midnight: 5 Year Old Spayed Black Female Lab 73 Pounds
We want Midnight and Bradshaw adopted together.

Midnight is a calm, sweet tempered friendly black Lab with a glossy black coat that lives up to her name. She was adopted as a puppy from a breeder, along with her sibling Bradshaw, when they were about 8 weeks old. For most of her life, Midnight and Bradshaw were part of a family, but recently circumstances changed, her parents got divorced, the human sibling outgrew her interest in the dogs, and her dad got a new job where he travels so much, he can’t take care of the dogs. The dogs spent much of their days in the garage in a large pen, and didn’t have much opportunity to get out for walks and play. So he called Lab Rescue for help.

Midnight is a happy girl who loves people and loves to play. She passed her handling test with flying colors. Midnight loves the ball, and will bring it back and drop it nicely for you. She likes to play with toys; if you throw one for her, she will bring the toy back to you. Midnight does not jump up on people.

Midnight went to puppy training and learned Sit, Down, Leave It, Heel, Fetch, Stop and Stay. It has not been reinforced over the years, but she did sit and down for a treat, which she took gently. She was happy to roll over for a belly rub. She was fine when we touched her paws, tugged her legs, checked her ears and teeth. When we put her food bowl down she looked at it and backed away. Midnight is a calm dog and seems to naturally have good manners. Some reinforcement and reminders of her puppy training should help Midnight to be a wonderful inside family dog. Midnight does pull on the leash; she loves her walk, but she’s a lot of dog, so work on her leash manners is a must! Midnight is good around other big dogs. She is house trained but not crate trained, and has not spent time in a house alone, as she was left in the garage when the owner was not around. She loves to ride on the car and loves to swim.

Midnight grew up with a small child (she was 7 when he joined the family) and is good around children. She is unknown with cats, but since she does chase squirrels, she should probably go to a cat-free home. Midnight has AKC papers, but has not been registered.

Lab Rescue is looking for an experienced adopter who will enjoy working with Midnight to reinforce her training, and to help her to walk well on a leash, so that Midnight can get the exercise that a healthy adult Lab needs.

We had Midnight at our boarding facility and she did great. She was clean in her kennel, did not bark or whine and got along with all the dogs at the facility. She has been a very easy dog for Lab Rescue and should be a very easy dog for the adopter as long she continues to get plenty of exercise and continued training.

Midnight is spayed, has her shots, and has been microchipped and heartworm free. Midnight and Bradshaw are located in El Cerrito.

If you have the time for this wonderful sweet girl and want him to be a part of your family, please contact Liz at 415-613-6374.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
