My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Isis and I was named after a Greek goddess several years ago. My human got sick and is no longer able to take care of me, so I was returned to CATS where I came from.
I am looking for my new furever home. I’m really small so I don’t take up a lot of room, and don’t need very much - food (dry and wet – yummy), clean water, a litter box, scratching post, someplace to sleep, and someone to love me, which I will return with lots of purring and nudges and snuggles. If you happen to have some crunchy treats and catnip, that would be nice too. Just know that I have a tendency to drool – especially when I get to sniff inside a container or catnip or when I get lots of love and scratches around my face and neck.
I think I would prefer to be the only cat in the house, since I’m not crazy about the cat that shows up at the sliding glass doors. I used to growl at her a lot, but my Foster Mommy keeps telling me that she’s ok. I’m not growling as much as I used to, but I still want to be the one getting all of the attention.
I’m very good about using my litter boxes, even when one of them is in the same room as the washer and dryer, and they are making strange noises. I also surprised my FM the first time I attacked the scratching post, using it the way I am supposed to, and not the carpeting on the floor.
I will probably follow you around almost everywhere you go, but be careful because I sometimes sneak ahead, and might get in the way. I usually want to be near people, so a lot of times I find myself waiting for my FM in her bedroom, usually on the floor or up on the bed, when she is getting ready in the bathroom. Well, at least until she opens up the closet door – then it’s time to explore.
One thing my FM keeps saying about me is that when I’m sniffing things, I kind of make these slight snorting noises and my lips at the corners of my mouth puff in and out. She also told me that one time while I was sleeping, I was snoring a little bit. I think she’s just making it up. She sure hasn’t complained while I sleep with her at night. She lets me get up on the bed with her, and I will usually check under the covers to make sure she is tucked in, and then I get up on my blanket that’s on the pillows on the other side of the bed and go to sleep. Of course, I don’t usually stay there the whole night. Sometimes I will lie down by my FM’s legs or above her head at the top of her pillows.
I also enjoy lying down with my FM when she is watching TV – sometimes I watch too. Just be careful where you put the remote controls though – I like to and nudge people and things and have accidentally turned the TV off, changed the channel or something like that.
Sometimes sitting on my FM’s lap isn’t close enough for me, so I crawl up her stomach and chest, and sit just below her chin with my paws up on her shoulder, where she gives me lots of pets. Other times, I’ll even crawl around the back of her shoulders and hang out for a little bit. There are a times when I don’t need to be so close, and I’ll either lie next to my FM or just stretch out on the floor – but usually somewhere nearby.
I really like to know what is going on around me, especially in the kitchen, where I have a tendency to get up on the counter. If my FM sees that I’m thinking about jumping up, she stops me by telling me “NO.” If I do sneak up when she’s not looking, my FM will tell me “off” or “down,” but I haven’t quite figured out what those words mean yet, so she has to come over and put me back on the floor.
I love it when my FM gives me wet food. I’ll start following her to the bathroom to get the bowl, but usually I end up in front of her, to make sure she’s going the right way. When we get back to the bathroom, she keeps telling me to “sit” or “sit down”, which I’m starting to learn, because now she sometimes just says to me “what do you do?” and I will get down on all fours. She then tells me that I did a “good job” and that I have to “wait” or “stay”. I think I’m figuring it out, because after a few days, I don’t get up to eat as soon as she puts the bowl down. Sometimes I forget, but I’m still learning.
My FM thinks I may have something called ADD, since I don’t play with toys for very long. I may bat at a ping pong ball or jingle ball a couple of times, and then I lose interest and wander off. Even those toys that have a string and maybe a toy at the end of a stick don’t hold my interest for very long. The one toy that will hold my attention longer than 5-10 seconds at a time is that elusive red dot that makes its way around a room. Sometimes I lose sight of it, and it shows up again in front of me, and I will watch it move around again. Occasionally I will chase it, but not very often.
My FM says that I’m relatively quiet – except for purrs and sniffing, since I don’t meow too much. The only time she heard me scream my head off, was when she picked me up at PetSmart to take me home – I didn’t like being in the carrier. When we got inside the car and she looked back at me to tell me everything would be ok, I nudged up against the carrier and quieted down. I didn’t even cry on the way home. Otherwise, I only meow occasionally.
You can meet me at the Natomas Petsmart between 11 and 4 on Saturdays and Sundays!
