SAFE Class XX is now in session! Seven dogs are paired with 14 inmate trainers at Western KY Correctional Complex located in Fredonia, KY. The former shelter dogs live with their handlers 24/7 at the institution for between eight and 12 weeks and receive daily obedience training. This training includes loose leash walking, housetraining, sit, stay, and recall, plus some tricks and basic agility. All dogs are spayed/neutered, are heartworm negative, on flea/tick preventative, heartworm preventative, and are fully vetted. Applications may be requested at safehavenky@gmail.com and will be accepted until November 1, 2014. Adoption fee is $150.00.
Hello, Jack Russell fans (I know there are quite a few of you.)! I want you to know that i am doing much better, thank you very much, since I was abandoned with my puppies. A wonderful lady at Creatures Great and Small Rescue gave my sweet babies and me a comfortable foster home at her house, but she sensed that I needed some specialized care and asked SAFE to take me. I don't mind telling you I was very, very fearful and shy, but I will spare you the details of what I went through before our rescue. My trainer is a poet and here is the poem she wrote to describe me (I think she's very good):
A Jack Russell makes life brighter,
In a curious and bouncy way,
Adopt Mookie and wear a smile,
Each and every day!
She is 18 months old, cuddly,
Adorable and shy,
She loves to cuddle and kiss,
And to chase a butterfly!
We know she will learn
Quickly as she goes,
She already does tricks and commands,
Her limits no one knows!
