My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our foster dogs live as family members in the foster home until chosen for adoption. Please contact Kim at kschulz207@gmail.com with any questions.

Meet Patches, he is a great dog! He is smart, well behaved, housetrained, crate trained, calm, obedient and loving.

He was an owner surrender because the owner had serious health issues. Patches is socialized to people and other dogs. He absolutely loves to be with people. He will stay by your side while sitting, sleeping or walking. I let him roam freely when I am home. I crate him during the day when I am at work.

I was told by the staff that his name is Patches, but he does not appear to know it. He does however readily come when called, motioned to or for a whistle. He did not appear to know any commands, but learned to sit for a treat within 3 sessions. I have found one trick he does know, he will dance on his back legs in a circle for a treat. He loves to go for walks and gets excited when preparing to go outside, but he will not bolt out the door if told to stay. He is very smart and picks up on the human’s cues.

I have two 12 pound Jack Russells, one male one female, and they both get along with Patches. He and the female play tug of war with toys, and wrestle around with each other to the point of exhaustion (mine!). All get along great. There is a cat that visits the house. I think Patches would like to chase the cat, but this cat won’t run. So I am not sure how he would be with all cats, but with this one, he is fine.

All three dogs eat at the same time and there is no food aggression. I can take away food he is eating, a bone he is chewing or a toy he is playing with and there is no aggression. My dogs and Patches do not fight over anything.

We call him the security guard. He will make the rounds to see what the humans are doing. If someone is taking a shower and the door is closed, he may come to another human and whimper so the door will be opened and he will push the shower curtain back to look in to see everything is OK, and then go about his other business. Patches will never let you sleep through a fire alarm, or one chirping due to a low battery. He does not bark, but will whimper to the human, and then go to the alarm. I took a bad tumble down the stairs and he came running as soon as I fell. He stayed by my side and gently nudged my arm until I got up.

Patches will bark if someone is at the door, but does not get overly excited, and will stop if asked. He does not appear to have much of the terrier digging instinct, as he never seems interested when my two are furiously digging for something and has never joined in.

This is a sweet, sweet dog with lots of personality and smarts. He deserves a great home. He is 21 pound, has been neutered, wormed, heartworm tested and vaccinated, including rabies. His adoption fee is $20 and that includes the Hamilton County dog license.
