My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

An application must be completed, before we can schedule a meet and greet.

Meet Ellie, an adorable 3 month old English Setter puppy. She is fostered in Downey, CA. We do not do out of state adoptions. She is a healthy, sweet girl who is learning basic obedience and potty training. She's estimated to weight 45 to 70 pounds at maturity.

English Setters are smart, active, affectionate dogs who need regular exercise. She will need to be spayed at the appropriate age, but WHDR will cover the cost.

The English Setter is a quick, quiet worker with an excellent nose and a coat that keeps the dog comfortable in both hot and cold weather. A very gentle, calm dog. Friendly and excellent with children, they are easy going, loving all the affection they can get. Exuberant and vivacious outdoors, but relatively inactive indoors. With meek owners they will become willful.

Rules, structure and training should start early to prevent development of bad habits. They need authoritative, calm, but firm, confident and consistent owners, but should never be harshly treated. They are sensitive to the tone of one's voice and will not listen if they sense that they are stronger minded than their owner, however they will also not respond well to harsh discipline. Owners need to be calm, yet possess an air of natural authority. Need a lot of structure and enjoy playing with other dogs. English Setters are adequate watchdogs.

All adoptable companions from Welcome Home Dog Rescue come with a full health check up, up-to-date vaccinations and are micro-chipped. All applications are reviewed in the order they are received; however, WHDR will ultimately select the best applicant to pet union.
