My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mercy is an endearing girl that unfortunately through some sort of accident, needed to have her one eye removed. This of course causes her to be a bit cautious at this point when approaching people and objects but it takes nothing away from her sweet nature. She is a lovely, laid back and friendly dog that just wants to love and be loved. Mercy is really a lovely girl. She is approximately 2 - 3 years old and currently weighs approximately 35 lbs.

Mercy is a very well mannered, well behaved and sociable dog that gets along with other pets including cats (we have a kitten in the home). She learned to avoid our senior little dog who has some attitude. On walks she will bark when she sees another dog (we are working on this) but she just wants to meet and say "hi". She is a great girl and is extremely lovable. She is a bit shy with strangers but warms up quickly and is friendly and sociable with everyone. We have not had her around children but due to her having only one eye we would suggest she be placed with older children only. Mercy is calm when in the house. She enjoys going for frequent walks and is willing to go out, except when it is raining.

Mercy does not show any fear to loud noises or passing cars, trucks or buses, but sometimes will seem a bit spooked if there is a shadow or someone comes up on her blind side from behind. She has never been aggressive about this happening. Mercy loves to always be near her human companion although she is never under foot or in the way. She loves to go to work with me, and loves being in the car as your shot gun partner. Mercy is finally coming out of her shell and beginning to play with a ball, the other dogs in the home and has actually been spotted going to get a toy from the toy basket!

Mercy is the best well mannered dog I have met. She will lay down either in another room or under the table when we are eating and has never once begged for food. She does not recognize her name so she does not come when called. She does not seem to know basic commands such as sit, come, down, leave it or drop it, but does know the word "No". She is such a well mannered and well behaved dog, we really haven't had to use any of these commands with her. We are working on recognizing come, sit and stay.

Mercy is completely house trained and has not had any accidents at all. I do not believe that Mercy is crate trained and I don't believe she needs to be crated. She is such a well behaved, well mannered dog! She is in the process of being leash trained. She definitely knows what a lead is for and loves to go for walks. She does pull still but is currently learning how to heel and to wait and sit when we stop. She is quiet in the home but will bark if someone knocks on the door. She is very devoted to her person and seems to be more at ease with females but is fine with males.

Mercy loves affection and attention however there have been times when she seems to react as if she has been hit or abused. Sometimes when going to pat her gently, she will flinch and if you are reaching down to pat or give her a kiss she ducks down like she is about to be hit. A gentle, loving hand and a person who is fairly active and enjoys walking and hiking would be great for Mercy. She has proven herself to be extremely trustworthy in the home when left alone.

I believe that Mercy would be best in a home with a female that would nurture, reassure and baby her. She would have no issues with other animals, such as a cat or dog. Mercy likes to curl up on the couch, so a home that allows this would be wonderful for her. Mercy will make an awesome dog and companion for anyone who can get past the fact that she has lost one eye. She is lovable and friendly and one of the best well behaved dogs I have ever met. I and our entire extended family will truly miss her as she is just a lovely dog.

If you think Mercy would could find love with your family, please submit an application for consideration.
