Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET ARCHIE:
A - Affectionate and loves walks in fall leaves
R - Resourceful - like all Dachshunds
C - Cuddly, cute and curious
H - Handsome and happy go lucky
I - Independent, but loves his human and doxie company too
E - Energetic and a good eater
Archie is a real ‘dog’s dog.’ He’s curious, resourceful and full of personality. A neutered, nearly 4 year old, male, red short haired tweenie dachshund (AKC, no papers) weighing about 18 lbs, ARCHIE love walks especially on the beach (ocean or river). He loves biting the water and pulling out seaweed…I mean, who doesn’t love a bit of seaweed once in a while? Archie loves to walk, run and play, especially off leash, though he is leash trained as well. He needs a doxie proof (secure) fenced yard to run, play and dig in the dirt and it goes without saying that he enjoys it best when he has someone out there to play with him. ARCHIE is VERY affectionate and likes to snuggle but does not enjoy getting under blankets, so you won’t have to worry about him stealing the covers. ARCHIE is dreaming of his new life with a loving, stable family where he is the only dog, he can play outside, go for walks and receive the affection and attention he deserves. Are you that family seeking a handsome, fun, outdoor-loving, Dachshund?
NOTE FROM ODR, INC.:
Archie is an incredibly active Dachshund and like all active doxies, we must keep an extra eye on them to keep them safe from injury to their backs. Archie likes to jump on and off chairs and even from the chair to the table top. Not only do we need to watch out for his back, you may need to find yourself watching out for your dinner. NOT to worry though. If you keep your dining chairs pushed into the table, he doesn't get up there.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give ARCHIE a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net - the adoption committee will attempt to be in touch with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
