My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Willie is an 18 month old neutered black male Lab who weighs 53 pounds. He comes from a rural area and would probably not do well in an apartment/townhouse/condo or busy neighborhood. Willie is a sweet boy who knows some commands such as sit and shake and seems to be a quick learner so further training should not be a problem. He is a typical Lab that is energetic and will need training and plenty of exercise. Willie is a strong boy who pulls on the leash so will need an easy walk harness. He is good with other dogs and settles nicely in the car for rides. Willie is approved for kids aged 10+.

Update (12/10): Willie is a very playful and energetic fellow. He quickly makes friends with his trademark 'sit and offer a paw' move. He uses that move whenever he wants attention or an extra treat. He knows it works every time! He knows sit, paw, and stay, and would benefit from a positive training program as he is very responsive to treats. He follows his humans everywhere, but also plays with the resident lab and enjoys his company equally. He now rides better in the car, and he's also improving his walking manners with the easy walk harness. He is completely house trained (not a single accident since arrival) but does not like the crate - he claims he does not need one.
He does very well having free run of the dog-proofed version of the house. He sleeps in the living room (uncrated) with the resident lab, and lets his fosters sleep in without a peep. He enjoys his toys, particularly the squeaky ones, and for a less noisy afternoon he likes to entertain himself with a stuffed kong. His energy would make him a great partner for a family with an active life. He's also great company for a lazy afternoon of watching movies as he settles with the family and just goes to sleep near the humans. He's a great dog!

Update (12/05): Willie is such a happy and friendly dog. Whoever ends up adopting him will have a nice companion. He's on the smaller side and knows his commands: sit, down, paw. He will sit nicely for a treat and take it gently from your mouth. He loves to be petted. Willie needs to be walked with an Easy Walk harness until he learns how to heel. This happy pup is definitely one of the favorites at the kennel. He has amazing eyes that will melt you.

Update (11/25): Willie is a happy boy who is still waiting for a chance to move to a foster home. In the meantime, he's keeping busy playing with the kennel staff. He is good on the leash, but needs to wear an Easy Walk harness as he wasn't used to walking on leash when he came to us. One of our volunteers took Willie for a walk and he did well. He is friendly with the other dogs at the kennel. He has the most incredible yellowish/caramel eyes.
