My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BRANDY is a 2 year old spayed chocolate female Lab who weighs 60 pounds. Brandy is one sweet chocolate kiss and she doesn’t let her leg amputation get her down! She is doing well, she loves everyone, other dogs, people and kids! She has a wonderfully happy and loving disposition. She does know basic commands such as sit, shake and lay. She is house trained. Brandy was previously left with free roam of the house and did fine. Brandy has not had experience walking on a lead as she came from a rural area and her previous owners did not take her for walks. She does enjoy swimming! She is good with other dogs (lived with two) and does fine with small dogs too. She previously lived with older kids and loved them. She is good with cats and previously lived with one. She is approved for kids 9+.

Brandy's Story ~ Brandy was given up by her owner when she could not afford treatment for diagnosed septic arthritis of her leg. Lab Rescue took her in and their vets examined her, did blood work and x-rays and diagnosed her with possible Osteosarcoma which is a fast spreading and malignant form of cancer and amputation is the only way to stop it. They recommended they remove her leg at the shoulder to prevent spread of the disease. Lab Rescue told them to go ahead with the operation. Vet feels she will do well after the amputation.

Foster Update (10/4): Brandy is doing really well. When her foster first met her she seemed more like an 8 year old dog than a 2 year old. That has certainly changed. She and the foster's dog are constantly chasing each other, playing tug, and generally being mischief makers together. She has lost that scruffy looking coat and is so soft and shiny. She seems to be quite happy and is much loved.

Update (8/13): Brandy is continuing to recovering from the surgery to remove her leg and has moved to her foster home. Unfortunately the biopsy results are back and that the cancer is Osteosarcoma, an aggressive and often fatal cancer of the bone
