My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SCOUT is a 8 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 84 pounds. He was found strolling along a quiet road, apparently looking for a better life. He is a very good boy who is friendly and laid-back. Don't let his age fool you he is still full of spunk. Got to love that adorable grin and floppy ears. He rides well and did well on a lead. He is good with other dogs and is looking for his furever home. Scout is approved for kids aged 10+.

Update (10/24): A couple of our fosters have had us teetering on the brink of “foster failure” and now we have another one: Scout:“The FP’s say that I reveal a little more about myself every day, like peeling an onion. Except I don’t make them cry- just smile and laugh. I went for my first real walk last weekend and while I pulled a tiny bit the first 100 yards or so, I was very good. I touched noses with one of the horses and she seemed okay, except she had hay breath. I have also been allowed to hang out on the front porch without a leash when the FP’s are out there. I went to visit a different cat upstairs and she did fine with me- she didn’t try to chase me or bite me so I was gentle with her (hoping she’d share her food with me). One of the crazy barn cats ran through the house during a thunderstorm but I didn’t join the others chasing him. I did get a bath last weekend; I was very good once FD put me in the tub, and it felt so good afterwards that I just sort of loped around in the sunshine. I really liked the towel stuff and I LOVED being brushed- I kind of melted down to the floor as FM was brushing me. I sleep with one of the resident dogs and FM caught us in a pile one morning this week. I have asked some of the residents to play, but they haven’t been in the mood the same time that I am, but that’s okay. I did try to humor the FP’s by retrieving a tennis ball a couple times but I am not too keen on that Kong thing, so when the other dogs took it from me, it was no big deal.
Oh, FM said I better list what I DON’T do: I don’t bark, nor dig, nor chew, nor get in the trash I also still need to gain 10 pounds or so (30 if I want to look like the resident dogs). I feel better each day and have a lot more energy than when I got here and was just a couch potato.
Licks and love,

Update (10/13): Scout is wonderful! Despite his prednisone and thyroxine and any other meds that make him drink and piddle, he only had the one accident a few hours after he got here and has been perfect since. He is so mellow but a very content and happy pooch. He still hasn’t barked- even at FD when he walked in after dark with suitcase and arms full; he just acted like he had known him forever. He slept with our Shadow last night outside our bedroom- totally comfortable already. Darned near perfect dog- get his skin and ear problems under control and he’ll be centerfold material!
