My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BLADE is a 2 year old neutered black male Lab who weighs 73 pounds Blade is from a rural area and would probably not do well in a city environment, apartment/condo/townhouse or busy neighborhood. . Blade is a sweet, friendly boy. His foster family states he is very sweet, loves tummy rubs, and snuggling in bed with you. He was given up as family lost their house and moved in public housing and couldn't have a dog over 25 lbs. He is making progress on basic training. He now knows the following commands: sit, down, wait, stay, come, with me (aka, stay with me while on leash), let’s go, leave it, take it, drop it, and how to walk on the leash. All are works in progress! He also knows to sit when you stop while out on a walk. He has also gotten much better about not jumping on people when they come to the door. Blade is crate trained & very good in the house, no chewing, counter surfing, or getting into anything other than occasionally grabbing a sock or a tissue from the trash & just walking around with it in his mouth . Blade is trained on an invisible fence and knows the flags and tone mean to stay in the yard. He has become much better on the leash, but can still pull when he gets excited and distracted. His foster family is getting him out as much as possible to get him exposed to people, noises, dogs, crowds, etc. He is nervous when he goes anywhere, so he is learning that positive outings can be fun. He still has a long way to go in social training & will greatly benefit from formalized obedience & continued, low-key outings. He has been to formalized training twice to learn how to socialize better. Most of the time, he just wants to play and can’t contain himself (missed out on a real puppyhood!). Lots of continued low key outings with non reactive dogs will really help his confidence and help him learn that other dogs and outings with his family can be fun! He would benefit from being with another dog, who could show him the ropes. Blade really loves children. His foster family has a lot of children in the neighborhood and he wants play with them when he sees them. Inside the house, Blade is a really good boy who loves being near his foster family. He likes to lay his head in your lap and to just be with you. He loves to carry his toys around the house in his mouth (sometimes he carries 2 at the same time!). He does not get on the couch or chairs and sleeps at night on a dog bed next to his foster parent’s bed. He is allowed to snuggle in bed after breakfast in the mornings. Blade is a good boy and with some love, dedicated training and patience, will be a great family member. He has a great disposition, loves kids and people. He would do best in the country or in a semi rural setting where he would have a lot of room to run (he likes to go on one or two 5 minute crazy runs all by himself in the back yard (or basement), even after a 30 minute walk). He is approved for kids 6+. More info soon!
