Hemmingway has been with his foster family almost his whole life. I believe he was born to a feral, but removed quite soon. He has retained his very cautious nature. He lives out in the general public of my home where there are other adult cats.
Hemi's affection comes in him rubbing up against you on a counter or the back of the couch or on your legs. He will sit on a couch or chair and if you are calm, you can sit by him and pet him or scratch his back. But if you make any attempt to confine or pick him up, he will leave. He sleeps out in the open (he is not a hider), sometimes cuddling with one of the others, and eats with everyone else in the kitchen. He is a very cool cat and a good pet as long as you aren't looking for a lap cat!
So generally, we love him to pieces. I consider him friendly, but very in charge of his space. He will look directly into your eyes and wiggle around as to say, "Oh, I really do like you!"
I believe he would like a home with one or two other cats and as we have other foster cats who are long term residents, he would be excellent to adopt with one of his friends.
We have dogs and birds as well. He is fine with the dogs and likes to watch the birds quite a lot.
