My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce you to Chance. He is about a year old German Shepherd/ Collie cross. He is about 45lbs, but still needs to fill out and gain some more weight. He is light brown with black streaks throughout his coat and a couple of white spots. Chance is a beautiful dog with a sweet, gentle temperament and personality! He will make a wonderful family dog to the lucky family that adopts him.

Chance was a stray at a rural animal control facility and was not claimed by his owner. He is the sweetest dog with a lot of love to give. His tail is always wagging and he is always willing to give lots of licks!! He wants to be by your side and comfort you as he is comforted. He deserves a family who is as devoted to him as he will be to them. He needs to belong in a home where he will not be allowed to roam free and get lost, and where he can be confident he is in his forever home, not being lost or abandoned again.

Chance is the most huggable dog. He likes to pretend to be a lap dog by putting his front legs on your lap. He will crawl up if given a chance. He rarely barks in the house. Most of the time you will find him cuddled up next to you. Chance loves to play. He will carry around his toys proudly, squeaking them and throwing them around. He also loves to sit and chew his bones. Chance enjoys all forms of exercise offered to him. He does well with regular walks using the Gentle Leader training halter and lots of play in the yard. Chance loves to be outside with us. As much as he is active outside he is calm and quiet inside.

Chance loves to be snuggled and pet. He is happiest when he is by your side, getting petted or when he is getting belly rubs as he is right beside you. He can never get enough love and affection. He likes to be brushed and will lie still while you brush him for any length of time. Chance has been such a good boy during his stay with us. At first he had a few accidents, but has learned quickly to go outside to do his business. He is also crate trained. He goes into his crate when we are away from the house. He was very unsure of going in his crate to start, but now goes in with a small treat, and sometimes a little convincingJ.

Chance is living in a full house! He has settled in very nicely with his foster dog sister. They were immediately best friends!! They play all the time, all day long, inside and outside! They chase each other, play tug of war, and romp around happily. Chance would love to be adopted by someone who has a dog. He would do very well in a home with another friendly, well-behaved dog. Chance would also do well being the only dog and getting all the attention to himself. Chance also has 4 cats as his new friends. He shows little interest in the cats, usually just ignoring them. Occasionally he decides he would like to play with one of the cats but can’t quite figure that out. He might chase one of them but stops as soon as he is called.

Chance is being fostered in a home with three young children (9, 7, and 5 years old). The children adore him and he loves receiving affection from them. He would do very well in a home with children. Chance is a sweet dog, with a gentle nature, and we believe that the more love he receives the better.

Chance is being taught basic obedience in his foster home and is attending training classes at Elite Dog Training in Kitchener. He needs someone who will continue with his training. He is a very quick learner. He also will need a lot of experience around other dogs as he has been unsure of dogs he does not know. He is coming along very nicely and we recently had him at a promotional event where he was exposed to many new dogs and he was a true gentleman the whole time. He garnered a lot of attention and was a favourite of the people who met him and the other dogs. Chance knows how to "sit," “down,” “shake a paw,” and is working on “come,” and “stay.” He is being taught to sit upon greeting people. Chance’s new family should commit to continuing his obedience training to bring out the best in this smart dog.

Chance will be a fantastic family dog who has all the love in the world to give. Whomever his future owners may be are very lucky people. With continued training and socialization, Chance is going to be one amazing dog. He has been an easy dog to foster and an even easier dog to love!

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and microchipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.
