Here's what the humans have to say about me:
DUKE: Get ready to chuckle and fall in love with this character! He was a very sad owner surrender as his mom lost her home and was devastated to leave him at the shelter and we understand why!
Yes, Duke has a few miles on him, estimated to be be around 4-5 years old, but the more time we spend with him, the more silly and charismatic he becomes and is even becoming quite the flirt with all the young female dogs when they pass his kennel. He is a very gentle and easy going boy who loves to rest his head on your lap and will even splay his front legs like a T-shape on your lap just to nuzzle his head on your lap.
Duke has these hysterical bursts of energy in the yard where he decides it is "time to run" and off he goes, romping and rolling around all over there place until he just STOPS and stays on his back in the yoga pose, "Happy Baby" where all paws are up and he actually appears to smile a bit and close his eyes!!!
There is a certain soulful quality to some older dogs that can put a person at ease and we think Duke has these qualities. He would be such a fantastic companion dog for anyone but particularly someone living alone who likes taking slow and leisurely walks and having the perfect walking partner since he is easy as pie on a leash. He is loyal as can be and would bond with his person strongly but can also spend lots of time alone and has proven to be so housebroken that we worry about him holding his bladder so long that it may be hurting him so he is always the first dog to go out in the morning.
We don't see any problem with Duke and other dogs but at this point in his life, we would really prefer that he be the only pet or else a mellow female dog could probably be A-okay. He has been neutered and from our experience and his former owner's notes, Duke is one cool dog who will bring a smile to your face with his quirky and unique personality. Please come and meet him and see for yourself!!!
