My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sampson is a dark red guy - a four-year old purebred male - with a perky tail that has many curls. His eyes are reddish brown which combined with a pinkish nose, make him appear to have some distant relatives of another breed. He has sprinkles of white on his feet.

Sampson is almost always on alert and observant. He has a history which explains his vigilant behavior. He was expected to alert/warn his person. That has continued in our home despite assurance that it is no longer necessary but that will take a bit longer to soften. His grumbles and woofs sound more threatening than they prove to be. Sampson is not fond of uniformed individuals and will need to continue to learn that encounters don't need to be unpleasant.

Sampson is a loyal and sweet soul who sits, shakes, lays down and shows his belly. He pulls when walking but again mostly seems to be just part of the take charge attitude/expectation of his past life. Sampson is learning to play with a ball, will dance for his food and is very springy when he is excited (his vertical leaps are very high!).

We think it would be best if Sampson is not be expected to adjust to small children. He has not been with cats at our home but co-exists with our older female Golden and two older greyhounds who still practice racing in the yard. He is becoming accustomed to their ways. Sampson thinks it necessary to grumble at resident dogs to warn me. This has been ongoing. Sampson likes to bond to someone and be their protector. His adopter would need to understand his untraditional background and be willing to help him continue to adapt to a new setting.
