My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shiloh is a happy-go-lucky dog. He approaches everything in life with the same playful, calm, curiosity, and takes everything in stride. He is very calm and trustworthy when meeting new dogs, going new places, and being petted by strangers. All he wants in life is to love and play, and a few treats along the way always gets his gorgeous lopsided ear to perk up! Shiloh is approximately 1 1/2 - 2 years old and weighs approximately 60 lbs.

Here is what else his foster family had to say:

Shiloh is a high energy, playful dog who needs a lot of stimulation. He trusts people very easily and would love to have a family that likes to work with him on his training, playing fetch, tug of war, and he would really excel with agility classes. He charms people with his goofy grin and lopsided ears, and is always happy to roll over for a tummy rub.

Shiloh is a little under-weight, and you can see his ribs and hips. But his appetite is strong and his energy is endless, so I'm sure after a few more weeks of good food and a regular routine he will look like a star. Shiloh seems to be in the young teenager stage, maybe 2 or younger. His large paws may be a sign of his youth, or whatever he's a mix of. You can see that although he won't get much taller, he has a lot of filling out to do, and he has a playful puppy energy.

He loves to roughhouse with other dogs, and can be a bit of a handful in the house at times. Exercising Shiloh will be a very important job, as his puppy energy needs to be addressed before he can relax with you. Exercising with him is so much fun, and he loves every minute of being outdoors in all weather. I'm sure as he gets older his puppy energy will settle down.

Shiloh has a beautiful black overcoat, with a white fluffy undercoat. The undercoat benefits from good brushing, and is likely to be considered moderate to high shedding. His coat can sometimes get matted if he is playing in the mud. But Shiloh really loves to get brushed, and tolerated his bath quite well (even the blowdryer!).

Shiloh is friendly with everyone. He doesn't bark, and he rarely jumps up. He has made friends with everyone that he has met, and charms them with his goofy grin. Shiloh would love to chase the cat if he could. Our cat stands up for himself and warns Shiloh when he gets too close, and Shiloh backs off immediately. He has respected the cat's space very well after being told once or twice where the boundaries are. Shiloh still needs to learn manners when it comes to respecting my other dog's space. Penny is very patient with him, and we are slowly teaching him when it's time to play (outside), and that playing indoors is not allowed. Out on walks and in the park Shiloh is very respectful when approaching other dogs, and will back off if they indicate that he has come too close. His personality is perfect for meeting new dogs, and he will only give them a passing glance if you redirect his attention.

Shiloh loves his crate, and goes in willingly, even when we leave the door open. He shows no signs of stress when we leave him (especially since in the crate is his chew-toy time). He is occasionally startled by a loud car or truck that passes by. He prefers to be on the inside of the sidewalk, away from the traffic. He trusts very easily and will recover quickly with a simple word of reassurance. Shiloh loves to run and play! Stephen takes him jogging and Shiloh never gets tired. He loves playing with squeaky toys, but his favourite thing to do is wrestle with other dog friends. Shiloh needs a lot of stimulation to keep this smart boy engaged. I have never heard Shiloh bark, even when people knock on the door.

Shiloh is learning his house manners, and will steal food if given the opportunity. He has not jumped up on the counters, and he hasn't chewed anything he isn't supposed to. He is learning to sit whenever we stop walking (at curbs, in the elevator, meeting new people, etc.) and is making great progress. He will come when called if you can get his attention. Since he doesn't know his name, it is sometimes hard to get the initial eye-contact needed. He is very smart and enjoys learning new things. With consistent training there is no limit to what this great dog will be able to do. He is reasonably well house trained. He tends to drink a lot of water because of his activity level, and needs to be taken out more than our other dog. Shiloh always does his best to hold it as long as possible, and with a steady routine I'm sure he wouldn't have any accidents. His leash manners are improving daily, and he is happy to walk with you once he remembers how. Shiloh runs out the door when you come home, but runs right back in again. This is purely excitement, and he has no desire to run away.

Shiloh is so sweet and trusting that he would excel with any kind of family. A single active person, or a family with lots of playful kids and cat and dog siblings. As long as he was given lots of exercise, Shiloh can adapt to any home and loves unconditionally. He is one of the best dogs I've ever known, and he will make a perfect addition to a lucky family that will love him back just as much as he will love you.

If you would like to make this wonderful boy part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
