Shamrock is an 8 year old, 15 pound, handsome male Shih Tzu. Shamrock loves to be around people all the time and will cuddle up on your lap or lay right beside you all evening. He can also be a very playful, fun dog and will play tug-of-war with a small blanket or towel and will play fetch with his favorite orange toy bone. He will occasionally get very excited and run circles around the living room. At night, his favorite place to sleep is in bed with you and will head right to the bedroom when you tell him it’s bedtime. Shamrock does very well with his foster family’s Shih Tzu, Lucky, and they will lie together, relaxing on the couch. Often Shamrock will try to initiate play with Lucky as well. However, they both have the same favorite toy, and Shamrock will sometimes take the toy out of Lucky’s mouth when he wants to play with it. He doesn’t do it in an aggressive way; he just walks over and takes it. Shamrock loves a daily walk and walks very well. His foster family is working on helping him project friendly greetings to strangers and other dogs and his adopters will have to continue to reinforce this. He also loves to chase squirrels in the back yard.
Shamrock is house trained and will let you know when he needs to go out by whining at the door. He unfortunately had some bad experiences with toddlers and young children in his original home, and will NOT be placed in a home where there are children or children visiting. He may have also had some previous abuse from a male person and he tends to become nervous and fearful around males or loud male voices. But once he learns he can trust the male figure, he warms up quickly. Shamrock thrives on attention and would do best in a home without children and with people who are home most of the day to give him the attention he craves. A single female may be ideal for him.
Shamrock is healthy, neutered, current on vaccinations and is microchipped. His adoption fee is $220.00 plus sales tax of $16.01, for a total of $236.01. His foster parents would like his adoptive family to live within a reasonable driving distance of the Twin Cities and also encourage them to attend the annual Shih Tzu reunion held in June each year.
