My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Peanut is a cute little dog that is fiercely loyal to his family and a loveable, darling companion. He is always around you without getting underfoot. He has obviously been in a home as he does know his basic command. He is a quiet, well behaved little dog that loves to chase squirrels and have a game of tug-o-war from time to time. Peanut is approximately 2 - 3 years old and currently weighs 25 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

This little dog is as endearing as his name! Since he arrived in our home, he has been nothing but polite and fiercely loyal. He loves to go outside for walks and to play ball which he will bring back to you until something more interesting catches his attention - namely a scent or a squirrel! He loves to be cuddled and is always near by, following you around but never under foot. Although not a huge fan of his toys, he will occasionally bring one over for a game of tug-of-war. He is so funny when he gets excited about something, he twirls around and will stamp his feet as though he is marching! All in all he is a great little dog to have around and a wonderful companion.

Peanut looks very healthy and has a lovely thick coat. I would describe Peanut's energy level as low in the house, and low to moderate outside. Peanut sheds very little.

Peanut has been very friendly with everyone he has met on walks, including children. You would see him as the friendliest little guy if you meet him outside the home however, he does bark when he greets a stranger in the home but he just wants to say "hi". He used to be wary of strangers coming in the home but he has now learned that its okay to greet them and be friendly. He is adaptable to your day. when you are out being active he is there with you. He loves walks and running around playing with his Shih Tzu friend, and loves to play with toys. When you are just relaxing at home he is there ..sometimes on your lap relaxing with you.

When out walking Peanut has not shown any signs of being afraid of cars or other noises. He is social with everyone but he can be a little shy at first but as long as you don't approach him really fast he is fine. On walks he is more interested in sniffing around than interacting with people.

Peanut has excellent house manners, the best so far of any dog we've fostered. He does not steal food and has not chewed anything. Peanut does know sit, off, shake a paw, stand pretty, and come. He is a good listener and is eager to please and very responsive to corrections. Peanut is fully house trained. He has been crate trained and he is perfectly fine in it. but he doesn't need one as he is great on his own for long periods of time.

Peanut is leash trained but could use some further training as he can pull a little when you first set out, plus if he sees a squirrel or a chipmunk he dashes off after them. If you keep him close to you he is generally pretty good, especially once he's burnt off a little energy. Peanut does not bolt out of the door, and doesn't try to escape from the yard. Peanut has definitely been in a car before as he hops in with no trouble. I find he doesn't stay in the back (I have a station wagon) and will jump over the seats to get to the front. I therefore secure him in the back which he doesn't like and whines a bit, but overall he's pretty good.

Peanut has really impressed us with how quickly he settled into our home, and how well mannered he is. I think he would be fine in an apartment as long as he gets out for daily walks. He would do best with another dog in the home that he can look up to. He really enjoys the company of his Shih Tzu fur-buddy. He is a very sweet, lovable dog that is incredibly loyal and will make someone a wonderful companion. He really is a great sidekick but can amuse himself with his toys so is not always needing your attention.

He would be great in a quiet home where there wouldn't be too many strangers coming and going. An adult couple or a retired single would be great for him. He is quiet enough for apartment living. He loves attention and to be cuddled and as long as he has someone to do that, he will love you forever.

If you believe Peanut would fit well into your situation, please submit an application for consideration.
