My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This little girl was found lying in the middle of a highway. A good samaritan stopped to move her off the roadway to the side thinking she was dead but as he approached her she lifted her little head and looked into his eyes. She was so matted she had to be in pain but luckily she seemed fine otherwise being really scared. She is now enjoying the good life with her foster family and loving every minute. Alpine is approximately 8 - 10 years old and currently weighs 14 lbs.

Here is what her foster family had to say:

Alpine is an absolutely adorable little dog. She is so loving and timid despite being found lying on the highway. She loves to cuddle and take naps (during which she usually makes cute little snoring noises). She is an older dog, so she is a lot calmer and quieter. Although she's gotten along with everyone she's met so far, she would most likely prefer a home with a quieter environment. She is healthy, considering the way she was found. She is missing her two front teeth, but she makes do without them, and is still able to chew her food and treats. Alpine loves to cuddle up next to whoever is around. She is very low energy thus far, but perhaps perk up a bit once she gets to know us a bit better. She does not shed at all.

Alpine is very friendly with everyone. She has not been introduced to children, but she would most likely get along with them as well. However, since she is an older, more timid dog, it would be better if the children were older. She has shown no signs of aggression. She is a little shy at first, but as soon as you let her know (whether it's by hand gesture or by calling her) it's okay for her to come to you, she will want to. She hasn't been around any other pets in the home, and does not seem to notice other dogs while on walks.

Alpine is almost fully house trained, she has had a few accidents so far, but we think she just needs to be taken out more often. She is learning to let us know when she needs to go outside. She is crate trained. Upon entering the room where her crate is, she will go into the crate right away, and then wait to see if the door will be shut or not. She will also go into her crate as soon as you tell her to. She is only left in the crate for a couple hours at a time, only when nobody is home. She is fully leash trained, and does not pull at all. She is great in the car, but she seems to prefer sitting on someone's lap while in there.

When we've left the house, she has tried to go through the garbage a few times. We think this is because she's constantly in "scavenger mode" since she was on her own for a while. Hopefully, once she realizes that she will be fed every day, she will stop this. She is very quiet in the home. Alpine will sometimes beg for food if you eat in front of her, but this does not happen very often.

Since Alpine is so timid, and maybe even still a bit scared, we think a quieter home would be better for her. If there are children in the home, it would be best if they were old enough to understand her situation. A retired couple would be her ideal situation I believe. She just loves to sleep all day, but loves to be around people while she's doing it. Someone who doesn't lead a hectic life, and has time to spend with her would be best.

If you think you can give this sweet girl a loving home to call her own, please submit an application for consideration.
