My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I would like to introduce you to Tucker. He is a year old male Jack Russell Terrier mix, probably with Yorkshire Terrier, weighing in at 15 pounds. He has got a wire coat and will be low shedding and good for many people with allergies. He was found roaming, and it must have been for a while as he came to us thin and in need of a good bath. He now is clean with a very healthy appetite. Tucker has been neutered, vaccinated, tested for heart worm and has gotten a clean bill of health. If you are active and are a looking for a small energetic dog that will do everything with you he is the perfect dog for you. You give him your time and he will provide you with a lifetime of joy. Tucker is a funny little guy who loves to play and go on adventures and he is looking for a lifelong companion(s) to share the joys of life with.

We feel Tucker would need a family that can give him lots of attention, as this breed gets bored very quickly. His mind needs to be stimulated with lots of walks, playtime and training. He also will let you know if he is feeling neglected by following you around, jumping up in circles or nudging your arm/hand if reachable. He likes other dogs and another dog buddy with the same energy level would be a good fit. If he is the only dog it would be best for him to have regular play dates with dog friends for socialization and play. He has met a cat and after initial interest was just fine with it. He could live nicely with a cat as long as the cat was accepting of a dog in the house. He needs a family that is home enough to give him the time and attention a young terrier needs. Daily walks and play sessions are a must. He would be fine with children, but again he needs a lot of play time so best if children are older and could pitch in with his exercise, as he does love to play fetch and tug of war. If you feel your lifestyle can bring fulfillment and happiness to this dog he would be the most appreciative member of the family.

Tucker loves to sniff so he would need a home with a fenced yard, it doesn’t have to be big just very secure fencing. This breed of dog will not be ideal in an apartment, even though he is small he also needs space to run and play. Unless someone is very active and would run him we feel that a home with a fenced yard for play would be best.

In his foster home he has been crate trained. He does well and will sleep through the night but needs to go outside right away when he gets up. We have him crated at night or if we go out to ensure that he isn’t up to mischief when we are gone. Tucker has learned to love his crate for bedtime, we leave the door open and he will go in when he is done for the night. We crate our fosters only because we want them prepared for everything incase their new families decide to crate them. Tucker is totally housetrained once he settles in to the home. For the first while though he should be watched until he gets used to his new forever family/home as accidents may occur from being anxious. For a small dog he is not very vocal, he has only barked after our dog has and that is only when someone is near the house.

His daily activities include playtime, training, cuddles and long walks. Playtime is usually tug of war or fetch. During his play time we also have been getting in his obedience training, asking him to either DROP his toy, LEAVE IT, SIT, STAY. He loves being rewarded with soft chewy treats. He is very food motivated so positive reinforcement training is best for him. Tucker will cuddle whenever he is invited to, but is also happy just laying by your feet. We are working on his walks as he is a puller. We are currently teaching him that walks are to be enjoyed but that he also has to listen. A Gentle Leader head halter helps with this. Tucker needs to be on a leash and not be able to run free as he loves to go off sniffing and may run off after exciting smells. With daily long walks and continuous training he will understand what is expected of him and be a great walking partner. Tucker will need a family committed to taking him to obedience training and getting a solid base of skills under him. He is a typical terrier and can be stubborn and choose to do his own thing so obedience school will teach him to respect his new family as leaders.

When Tucker's needs are met he will walk around with a smile on his face and hand out so many kisses. He is a very sweet and affectionate dog when he feels loved and secure and he adores his people. Tucker will bring so much warmth and love to anyone’s heart. He will bring entertainment, laughter and joy to your household. You will bring to Tucker a sense of security, stability, routine, sense of belonging and unconditional love. Believe me if you decide to adopt Tucker and have the time, ambition, commitment, and are willing to further his obedience training this will be the easiest and most rewarding decision you will make. Tucker is a doll and is very easy to love. He will be your best friend and partner in all adventures. All he wants is to belong to a family and be loved and never, ever be abandoned again.

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and microchipped prior to adoption.
