Facts about Misty

Misty, as you can see, is a big, beautiful girl with an equally big heart. She's about 5 years old and has been here for about a year and a half. Misty suffers from severe allergies and will probably need to be on a steroid for the rest of her life. She's looking great now, thanks to our diligent vets, but when she came she was missing a good bit of her fur, and was itchy and uncomfortable. Misty seems to dislike most other dogs, but is crazy about people. She loves to snuggle up to you, and is friendly towards everyone.

About Safe Shelter Inc.

About Our Shelter...

Safe Shelter has been up and running for 11 years. I worked for a year at a large, long-running, widely respected no-kill shelter and this inspired me to try it myself. It is a small, low-budget operation that could really use some volunteer and foster help!

Come Meet Our Pets...

We have just started occationally showing animals at Tractor Supply in Lavale MD. The big fundraiser each year is a yard sale in Flintstone and if I have enough volunteers I try to bring some of the shelter animals to show.

Our Adoption Process...

Potential adopters physically meet the animal, and me. The person or couple is interviewed in person, a vet reference is checked (if possible), and I visit the home, tour inside and outside, ask any additional questions necessary, meet any live-in family members yet unmet, and sleep on my final decision. The next day I will call with a decision - either way. The adoption fee for a dog is $50, for a cat, $30. The adoption contract includes a takeback policy - in effect for the entire life of the animal- and the right to visit, with notice, and to raclaim the animal in the case of neglect or abuse.
