My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Akhila (a-key-luh) came from a junk yard & is extremely sweet & timid. She has mange & also had a rotting tooth that had to be pulled when she was first rescued. Her exposure to humans has been minimal prior to this so while she does great when she is alone with other dogs, when humans are around she just wants to hide or sit in a corner where she feels safe. She is slowly starting to trust her foster mom & in a pack setting with the other dogs has let her foster mom pet her & didn't cower at her touch. She is the sweetest girl & just needs to learn that the world & humans are not scary but rather, are wonderful things that can give her love she has never been given before. The times she has been in a kennel she feels safe & has not soiled it so she has a great instinct that will likely help when she is more comfortable & able to work on house breaking.

Akhila's name comes from the goddess Akhilandeshvari which means, "never not broken". This goddess uses the fact that she is broken in pieces to her advantage. She rides the back of an alligator & is able to shift with each turn & spin that is thrown at her. Being broken means the possibilities before you are endless, you can do anything & shift & become anything you want. She derives her strength from what seems to be a weakness, the fact that she is broken. Akhila was given this name by her foster mom because she is the sweetest girl & we are hoping she can transform from being so broken into an incredibly loving & loyal dog to whoever is lucky enough to win her trust & love.

Akhila will be fixed, microchipped & current on vaccinations & heartworm prevention by the time she is adopted. She is 15 lbs & ~9 months old. She is currently being treated for demodex mange which is not contagious. Her adoption fee is $150 and emails can be sent to animalhelperneworleans@gmail.com for an application if you are interested in adopting her. Please share so Akhila can find her forever home!
