My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Greetings fans and friends I haven’t yet met! I’m Jewel, a ten-year-old purebred Golden, who is one well-traveled pup. I’ve lived in four cities—Palm Springs, Minneapolis, Chicago and of course, Birmingham, and I’ve traveled to 16 states. I was surrendered by my family who could no longer afford to provide me with the immediate care I require. I have an open wound on my front right dew claw, which originated as a staph infection. I recently tested negative for staph, but there is a major wound that needed to be addressed. You see with their first baby on the way, my family could no longer make the financial commitment necessary to begin the testing process. Two years ago I was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor on my left front paw. My family caught it early and had it removed successfully, at a great expense, which wiped them out financially. Right now the wound on my leg needs to heal, which means I will remain in vet care for another 2 weeks. My recovery is going to require daily changing of my bandages (in a sterile condition to avoid infection), pain meds and antibiotics. The doctor has said that they have diagnosed me with this thing called a “cutaneous lymphoma”. In doggie terms I hear them say this is a form of skin cancer. AGB is sending me to a special doctor called an oncologist. I hear that it is going to cost a lot of money to take care of me. AGB says I am definitely worth being healthy again (that made me feel really good), but we need a lot of people to help. I never had to ask anyone for anything and I sure never knew how to send messages to angels but I'm hoping they can read this and help us pay the doctor because angels are the only ones that can help! I have been a very lucky dog in my life to have been buried in a snowstorm in Minnesota, knocked over by a gust of wind in Oklahoma and have seen the Northern Lights near the Canadian border. I got to hang out with the wife of a Chicago Cub, who stroked my silky fur. My favorite trip was to Joshua Tree, California, where I saw a stunning meteor storm and chased chipmunks. It has been a wonderful life and mostly everything makes me happy, whether it’s lounging around the house or jumping in the car for a jaunt. Really the only thing that would the best is if you were to choose me for your very own furry friend. I love kids, adults, other dogs, cats, everyone. I am ready to get better and for you to come into my life - Jewel.
