My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce you to Bailee. She is a 6 month old German Shepherd crossed with a Husky and we believe there is some Whippet in there as well as she is thin and built to run. Bailee is a medium sized dog that is about 35lbs with black, white and tan coloring and is big enough to handle anything you want to do with her but not too big. She will fill out some as she matures but we don’t see her getting to be too much heavier than 40lbs as she has a lean build. She is a beautiful dog with an even more wonderful temperament and personality.

Bailee is a dog who loves to play, just snuggle with you on the couch or grab a toy and amuse herself. Bailee was a stray at a rural animal control facility and was not claimed by her owner. How her previous owner didn't come for her is beyond comprehension. Bailee deserves a family who is as devoted to her as she will be to them. She needs to belong in a home where she will not be allowed to roam free and get lost, and where she can be confident in that fact that she is home forever and will never be lost or abandoned again. Bailee would do well in pretty much any home situation. She is calm and quiet indoors. In fact, we have only heard her bark twice since she has been here. She is happy and playful and active outdoors. Bailee does however get car sick when going for even short car rides. Her foster family is working with her to accustom her to car rides but it would be wise to have her in a crate in the car until she gets used to being in the car. We feel a home with a fenced backyard would be needed for Bailee as she does love playing and needs to be able to run freely in a confined area.

Bailee enjoys all forms of exercise offered her and she requires daily walking and activity. She is a high energy dog and does well with regular walks and playing in the yard no matter what the weather. Bailee has been taken on walks about town and also on long walks on the wooded trails. She loves both and walks well on a regular leash or an extend-a-leash. What Bailee loves best is getting out and seeing the world. She is always interested on what is going on around her; from other dogs and children playing, to leaves falling off the tree. She runs like a gazelle and would make a great running companion or agility dog. Bailee is also happy when she is snuggling and getting belly rubs. Bailee will allow you to do anything to her if she's told she's a good girl and understands what is expected. She likes to be brushed and will lie still while you brush her for a short length of time.

Bailee was not house broken when she first arrived but she has quickly learned all about where she is to do her business and is learning how to let us know when she needs to be let out. Since she is still very young, she needs to be watched for the signs that she needs to go out. Bailee is also being crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night and when we are away from the house. She does try to sneak upstairs and jump into bed with anyone who may still be there, person or animal. Consistency is important to curb any undesirable habits. She picks up on rules and commands very quickly as she is such a smart girl. She has been an easy dog to foster and an even easier dog to love. We are still in disbelief that such a beautiful and lovable dog was allowed to become an unclaimed stray. Bailee is good with other dogs and has settled in nicely with her foster dog sister. She loves to play with her and looks to her older sister for guidance. She would do well in a home with another friendly, well behaved dog, but this is not a necessity for her. Bailee would do just as well being the only dog and getting all the attention to herself.

Bailee is also learning not to chase her three foster cats. She is learning to approach slowly and to control her puppyish excitement when she sees a new friend to play with. She has no aggression towards the cats; just excitement. She would be fine in a home with a cat if that cat was used to dogs and is calm around dogs. Bailee is not being fostered in a home with children but we believe that with her loving nature, she would do fine with children of any age. Bailee is a dog that loves to play and is even learning to fetch. Bailee is being taught basic obedience in her foster home and now knows "sit" and is being taught to sit at the door when it is time to get ready to go her walks. Bailee does jump up sometimes when she first meets someone and is working on learning that this is not acceptable.

Bailee's new family should commit to continuing her obedience training to bring out the best in this very smart dog. In the end you will have a fantastic family dog that has all the love in the world to give. Bailee’s rough start has not held her back from loving life and being a happy, affectionate girl. She is looking for a forever home to share her life with. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Bailee will have a devoted companion with a lot of love to give.
