My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We heard about Dixie when she came into the shelter, a suspected abuse case but there is no concrete proof of it. Dixie’s shyness tells a lot about the hardships she faced in barely her first year of life

Dixie is dog friendly and currently lives in foster care with resident doggie and has no issues
She is slowly discovering the joys of things like playing with a kong, sleeping on the couch or snuggling up in bed… her first night in foster care she hid in the crate that was set up and even though she was never told to go in she did on her own and with the door opened she stayed there all night

Currently she follows foster mummy around all day everywhere, she seems to be very trusting of women and has no issues. With men she is extremely shy and you can see that she is obviously scared but she is not aggressive and foster daddy is working with her to show her that not all men are mean. The fact that she curls up to him every night in bed tells us she is willing to forgive and forget her past if we just give her some time

At just under one year old Dixie is house trained and a quiet girl who tip toes around hoping to blend in with the furniture. Her birthday is December 13th and we hope that for her birthday we can find a loving forever home for her to help Dixie come out of her shell. She is a sweet girl and she is sitting on the door step to happiness she just needs a friend to guide her through and show her what the words “life with love” mean.

Dixie has not been tested with cats or with children; we would prefer a home with children over the age of 12 or no children at all because it is Dixie that needs the extra special attention right now. We are looking for someone who wants to spend time with her, loving her and allowing her to be the focus of attention. Also because of her size we do not want her unknowingly knock over a little one.

Dixie has not been left along for an extended period of time so we do not know if she suffers from separation anxiety or if she has destructive tendencies but seeing how she reacted on her first night in foster care it is safe to assume she is crate trained

Dixie has a gentle and quiet nature; we are hoping the right person is reading this and has the love in their hearts to show Dixie all life has to offer and take her on some wonderful adventures meeting new people and new places.

If you are reading this and your heart is melting and you believe you are that special someone for Dixie please write to CAARescue@gmail.com
