Kenai is pronounced Key Ni, meaning Brother Bear.
He's a happy guy with lots of energy. He had a lot of freedom running loose in the remote village he came from and when he was hit by a car, he was rushed to the lower mainland for vet care. With his paw torn apart and his leg severely swollen he arrived without a whimper or whine, just a hopeful look that we’d stop the pain. Throughout all the exams, the surgery and aftercare he barely complained. Completely healed now, he’s a happy go lucky guy loving his daily runs and playing with the other dogs.
Kenai loves to cuddle and is completely house trained. His behaviour suggests he’s around 1 to 1.5 years. We can’t even guess what breeds makeup this mystery mutt, certainly there’s some Husky and possibly Terrier or Lab but that’s as much as we can tell. He’s medium sized and only barks if another dog steals his toy so he could live in a multi-family unit with an experienced, devoted owner.
UPDATE: Kenai has done incredibly well with learning to trust and overcome his fears. He thinks coming when called is special because he get's so much loving when he does. Chewing is under control with the help of a Kong type toy and lot's of exercise. To be clear; lots of exercise means an hour of running, hiking and playing per day. He is athletic and a couple of 20 minute leash walks won't cut it with this boy. He's willing to learn and is such a nice boy that just wants his own family to love.
He must have lots of daily exercise and structure, or he will entertain himself by chewing on random things he finds around the house. Be it a bone or a toy or your favourite shoes. Again, lots of exercise and this doesn't happen. He’s ball crazy and retrieves the ball but doesn't always bring it back. Typical of a dog that was hit for coming he often stops several feet away and sits when asked to come. Doorways were scary to go through when someone is standing close by...with lots of treats and praise he’s used to it now and has learned to trust that nothing bad will happen.
Kenai is a great dog that will give you years of love and companionship. If you’re willing to spend a little time training you won’t regret it.
