My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Brooklyn: 3-yr-old spayed female black lab mix 104 lbs.

Brooklyn came to GGLRR from a family that could no longer afford her growing medical bills. She was being treated for a severe anemia which was causing her red blood cell count to drop to dangerous levels. She’d been lethargic, losing her appetite, and in general decline. GGLRR’s vet has weaned her off the strong anti-anemia medication (which appears to have worked) and she is well on the road to recovery. Her most recent vet check-up found her red blood cell count to be normal. She has returned to being a vibrant and engaging (and hungry) dog.

What Brooklyn’s foster says: We have had Brooklyn since late September and she is an absolute delight. If I only had one word to describe Brooklyn, it would be "sweet". She is incredibly loving, tolerant and obedient. Through recovering from her medical issues, she has had at least 3 other labs (mine!) to pester her, not to mention the several puppies we have fostered over her time here! To say she's tolerant is an understatement! She truly enjoys playing with all of them, even when she hasn't been feeling her best. She's been fabulous with kids of all ages and seems to know she's a big girl so tries to be careful around the little people and pups. She loves car rides - window open please - so she can stick her nose out, and loves neighborhood walks. But more than anything she is sweet and loving - she will lay with her head in your lap or at your feet for hours. She's been my constant shadow as I move from room to room ready to get a little ear scratch or lay patiently for the next load of laundry to get put away. We have truly enjoyed her in our home and so thankful to see her feeling more like a young lab again! She will be a wonderful addition to any family.

What Brooklyn’s Rescue Rep says: Brookyn is an angel in a dog’s body. Her previous owner reported that she has some Rottweiler in her, but it is hardly noticeable – other than maybe her size. She is spayed and micro-chipped, and soon will be brought up to date on shots. Brooklyn is ideal for an older person or someone looking for company while they work at home; someone that wants the ideal lab curled up at their feet. Brooklyn's forever family should be one that isn't overly active - no weekend warriors! She will need to have consistent exercise, like two 20-30 minute walks per day. She is not going to be a trail hiker ready to go for miles but loves a neighborhood stroll. She still has not taken to stairs so that should be considered. The right family will have a lot of love and attention to give and be happy to just keep each other company. She likes to play ball and romp with other dogs but also loves to chew on a toy (especially if it has a squeaker) and lay by your feet, or with her head in your lap waiting for some love.

Brooklyn is currently with a foster in Concord. If you are interested in Brooklyn, call Rescue Rep Dave 415-686-4248.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
