My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ROCKY “The Italian Stallion” 1.5 Year Old Black Male Lab Mix Neutered 105 Pounds

We have Rocky in a foster home and this is what the foster has to say about him:

Even though Rocky is a BIG young boy he is an amazing boy! He walks off leash next to your side when we go for walks and he will come when he is called. He gets to play with all the neighbors’ dogs and he is a big goof ball. The other day another male told Rocky to back off and Rocky told him he did not like it but a few minutes later Rocky was back walking at our side and wanted nothing to do with the grumpy older male dog. The foster home has a 15 year old female lab and Rocky is very respectful of her. Rocky is left during the day at the foster home but he gets walked during the day and he is taken out for playdates with other dogs. We would like a home that is around for a big part of the day for Rocky as he is still very young and he spent most of his life already in the back yard. Rocky can be in a home with other dogs and we think cats. (He will walk by cats and he does ignore them. He did chase a rabbit the other day?) Rocky knows a few commands but he is a very quick learner and he wants to please. He has not had any accidents in the fosters home and he sleeps on a dog bed at night-next to the fosters bed. Rocky loves to play ball, not much of a swimmer and at first it was hard for the foster to get him in the car but he now wants to go for car rides and will jump right in. Rocky should be in a home with older kids and Rocky is a big dog and will sometimes put his paws on you to say hello. If you tell him off he will stop. He is not much of an eater and he has a very gentle mouth. The foster home is using tie downs with him as he does like to follow you room to room and it creates some anxiety with him. He lays down on the floor with the foster dad and the foster lab sister and watches TV. (For a young boy he does not have crazy energy.) If you are up for a big boy Rocky is your guy as he has a wonderful temperament and is a really great dog.

A good neighbor convinced the owners of Rocky to surrender him to Lab Rescue. He was spending his entire time outside and was not allowed inside the house any longer, as he got too big! (He was no longer that small 20 pound lab puppy, so out he went!) The neighbor loves to garden so when she was in the yard; Rocky would come over and look through the part of the fence that was broken and try to get some attention. After this went on for a few months she went next door and spoke to the owner’s and convinced them to surrender him to Lab Rescue. They purchased Rocky through a friend who use to breed labs and Rocky was an inside dog and around their kids until 8 months ago. He is not a barker in the back yard, he does not dig or attempt to escape but he is very bored!

The neighbor takes him out on walks and he has decent leash skills but needs to walk with a correction collar. He knows some basic commands and needs continued training. She brings him inside her home and he does not have any accidents and he has not had any issues with her small dogs. GGLRR met Rocky out on a walk with two other foster dogs and Rocky loved them. (They are two large males and all got along; which is great with Rocky not being neutered.) We walked Rocky off leash and he got to swim, play with the other dogs, would come when called off leash and takes treats very gently. Even though Rocky is a big boy he is not a fighter but a BIG lover. We saw cats on our walk and Rocky did not pay attention to them. He tried to chase a rabbit but once we told him no, he stopped and came right back. He rides well in the car and seems like a very happy dog. You can touch him all over, his paws, his ears and he will roll over for belly rubs!

Rocky has such a great time he did not want to leave. Rocky is a very well-tempered dog and just wants to find a home where he can be part of the pack! He is very healthy, has his shots, microchipped and heartworm negative. Rocky needs to go to a home that will continue his training, a home that can get him plenty of exercise and he can go to a home with kids. He is a big boy but he does not jump up to greet anyone; he might knock over a small child with his tail!

Lab Rescue got Rocky all of his shots, got him neutered, did a heartworm checked on him – negative and got him a microchipped. Rocky is a very healthy boy! Call to come and meet this wonderful boy.

Rocky is located in Novato. If you have the time for this BIG HUNK of a boy and want him to be a part of your family, please contact Liz at 415-613-6374 or email liz@jobshopsf.com

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes, then it may take longer as we need to touch base with them for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a regular facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
