My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Laura is a skinny little girl with a history of neglect, culminating in the loss of one leg. You might be imagining a poor little pathetic dog, limping mournfully through life. That's not Laura! This girl is playful, very active, affectionate, never gets tired, and has a sunny disposition. Who would expect a dog with only one rear leg to be able to jump off a hard floor for treats and pets? She loves to go on long walks (could probably even accompany a jogger or power walker) for greater distances than you will want to travel. She's OK in the car, good in an indoor enclosure, and happy to follow a treat into her crate in the bedroom for a quiet night's sleep. She occasionally barks, but doesn't make a session of it.

Laura is thought to be about 10 months old, so she's a young dog. She's a willing learner, but does need some training. She would love to wrestle and play with another dog. If there's no other dog, then she wants to wrestle and play with her people. She needs some help learning not to mouth and paw at anyone who's petting her. She wants to join you on the couch and about half the time she tries to play for only a short while, then snuggles up and dozes off. The other half of the time she keeps wanting to wrestle and needs to be told "no!".

Laura needs to put on some weight. She bolts her food just as quickly as possible, and always wants more. A dog bowl designed to slow down a dog's eating speed is beneficial for her. Her foster parents are teaching her to sit and stay and report that she learns quickly using treats for rewards. She's also learning to walk politely on a leash using a Gentle Leader collar.

Laura would be a great dog for an active family with older children and/or another active dog who likes to play.
