My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MISCHA 10 Year Old Black Female Lab Spayed 55 Pounds

Mischa was an owner surrender to the Napa shelter as her owner passed away and no one was able to take her into their home. The shelter called GGLRR as they were full and needed to free up some space. Mischa was not doing so great in the shelter, not eating much and they felt she needed to be in a less stressful environment. Also since she was 10 years old they were not sure they could get her adopted. If GGLRR was not able to pull her, she was due to be put down.

Her owner was single and made her part of his life for the last ten years. He fell on hard times and was living out of his car the last couple of years, so Mischa was a bit neglected with her medical care but she was still with her owner who took her out for adventures each day. Mischa’s owner passed away in his car and was not found for a couple of days. (Mischa was by his side until the end. The family was notified but was not able to provide a home for Mischa. They brought her into the shelter where they filled out the surrender forms on her. Also GGLRR has spoken to the family to get more details on Mischa.)

What we know about Mischa:

Mischa was purchased from a breeder and was brought into the home when she was 10 weeks of age. She has been an inside dog, with her owner and is house broken. She has a wonderful temperament and gets along with everyone and everything. She is a very easy girl and will do what you ask of her with no issues. She knows sit, down, walks well on a leash and is not a jumper. Mischa is one of these dogs that is an old soul! She has very soulful eyes and it seems like she is talking to you when you are with her. She is use to companionship and is one of these dogs that can go for a walk and then will be happy laying at your feet the rest of the day. She loves to go for car rides and will curl up on the back seat or she will sit up and watch out the window. She is a very easy going girl and is a very sensitive girl. She rolls with the ups and downs and will give you the look : Are you my new owner?

Medical

Mischa is a very healthy girl. She has had a full blood panel with no issues, she is heartworm negative, she has all her shot and she is microchipped. We are confirming she is spayed. If she is not spayed we will get her spayed and will do a dental at the same time. She had a back case of fleas which we have treated. From having the fleas she has some hair loss on her tail and her back side. The hair should grow back over the next few months. (Since we have had Mischa she got a virus and we ran every test you could imagine and all came back as a healthy girl. We did put her on prednisone to help her with her appetite and to reduce her fever. She will be on this for a couple more months – we are wedding this off her right now. With the medication she will drink more water and will need to pee more.

From the foster mom:

She is a super sweet, affectionate girl who wants to be by your side all the time. She will hang in the kitchen (she is a beggar but I don't give in), the bathroom, outside or where ever you are. She loves go on walks and is great off leash exploring an area that you can keep an eye on her. She doesn’t wander off, but her nose can lead her in a different direction. Since she seems to have some hearing loss, she usually will not hear you call her. Once she sees you, she’ll catch up to you. She walks very well on leash and completely ignores other dogs and cats too. She is slow, but can go for about ½ hour walk, twice a day. She’s put on some needed weight and is eating well. She drinks TONS of water (from the prednisone) and needs to go out very often. I have a dog door that she uses to let herself out. She will needs to be with someone who has a dog door or can let her out frequently, sometimes 3x an hour, at least while she is still on the meds. She was guarding water when she first came to me, but I’ve worked with her and she has backed off on that. You can touch her and pet her when she is eating, but not so much when she has a bully stick. She has responded to a clap and that is what I use to get her attention. She doesn't bark. In fact, I don't think I've actually heard her bark. Overall, she is just a very sweet girl. I think she’ll do best in a home where someone is present most of the time. She just really seems to blossom when someone is there with her. Overall, she is a great dog and will adapt easily to her forever home. She’s been a great dog to foster.

Come see Mischa all she wants is a soft bed to lay on and she will be your best friend for life!

Mischa is located in Napa.

If you have the time for this calm, gentle girl and want her to be a part of your family, please contact Liz at 415-613-6374.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes, then it may take longer as we need to touch base with them for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a regular facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
