My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

IDGSR WELCOMES BUCKY INTO THE SAFETY OF THE RESCUE!!!

Bucky Bucky Bucky oh where do we begin.... Bucky came to us in March 2014 as a approx. 3.5-4 month old puppy, an owner contacted us to take him in and within the hr. of receiving the message, we called, they'd already taken him to the shelter.

We got a volunteer to pull him and she fostered but immediately noticed something was not quite right with Bucky's mouth. He could not open his mouth more than about an inch. He got an initial xray and it showed that his jaw was fused together. Off next to a Veterinarian maxofacial specialist. Bucky needed surgery to correct the jumble of mashed bones that had been fused together. It was apparent that Bucky had suffered a blunt force trauma to the face in his jaw bone area, Did someone kick him in the face? This was serious. Bucky couldn't do all the normal things a dog does with his mouth, he could only eat one kibble piece at a time, he drooled water out because he couldn't lap properly, he couldn't yawn, play ball, or pick up any toys, he couldn't play or roughhouse with any of the other dogs, so the surgery was planned out. This surgery cost approx. $4000 and Bucky got it done, it was touch and go, some infections, etc.

Now many months later Bucky has recovered from his surgeries, he has full range of his mouth and acts as if nothing has happened. He is still very much puppy at approx. 11-12months old.
He has been fostered with cats so is cat friendly but he likes to play with them so he needs a dog savy cat who will also stand up to him.

Bucky has a slight angulation to his face but knowing what we know and Bucky's survival, his personality, makes him all the more adorable.

Bucky really has no limitations at this point. His side of his face where the surgery was done and bone removed is soft tissue so care to make sure he doesn't get any type of facial injuries or gets too roughed up in play. You can see by the videos he's an active boy. He will benefit from lots of exercise to wear his little butt out as he is a tweenager with boundless energy. While Bucky could be deemed special needs, there is really nothing difficult to do except to keep an eye on any type of soft tissue damage inside the mouth from say chewing sticks or bones.

Bucky would benefit from an active family, if you would like to adopt Bucky, please apply with this rescue.
