My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sophia is a very dear soul and has not had the best start in life. She doesn't realize that she is worthy of your love and affection but once she sees it being offered, she wants to be your best friend for life. She is still a very young girl and in many ways she is just an overgrown puppy at this stage in her life. She is learning quickly however and making great strides in her obedience and socialization every day. Sophia is approximately 8 - 10 mos old and currently weighs 44 lbs.

Here is what her foster family had to say:

Sophia came into our home a scared puppy. She was unsure of her surroundings, confused and seemed a little sad. The next day it was like a completely different dog greeting me! She had a wag to her tail, kisses waiting for me and just wanted to play! She is still a little shy when it comes to meeting new people. All Sophie wants to do is play and be loved! Her favourite things to do are to go for slow walks, chew on bones, and cuddle! Her overgrown ears are the cutest thing, she also loves when you play with them! Sophia is well on her way to being the perfect companion. She is learning new tricks, obedience, house training as well as crate training. She is very eager to learn but it takes some patience when puppy brain kicks in! She is so easy to love and immediately stole my heart!

Sophia is the sweetest dog ever. She has made huge changes since coming to stay with us and is trusting us more and more each day. At times she is still afraid of loud noises or if you reach for her too quickly. It doesn't appear that Sophia was ever loved or had been anyone's pet prior to coming into our care which makes her so appreciative of any attention you do give to her.

Sophia is GREAT with all other pets. When we first introduced our cat, our cat gave a couple growls and hisses and Sophia didn't even pay her any attention. She actually waited for the cat to warm up to her.

Sophia does not beg for food when you are eating. She has however done a bit of counter surfing when we aren't looking but seems to just want to know what is up there. She is still a puppy and will need someone that is going to continue teaching her manners and what behaviours are right and wrong. Sophia came into our home knowing nothing, now she knows sit. She is well on her way to being house trained and is showing great progress since she arrived. We have been putting Sophia in her crate at night to sleep and when we will be gone for long hours during the day. We use treats to entice her to go into the crate and she will bark for a few minutes when she first goes in but then settles down. Sophia walks very good on leash! I think that might be because she is so responsive to her person and doesn't want to leave their side. She is great in the car and just lies down nicely on the back seat.

Sophia would be best suited in a home without young children as she does tend to jump sometimes (we are learning this is not okay) and someone who can continue her training. Sophia loves to play, so I think she would love a home where there is another dog around, or someone who is home enough to spend a lot of time with her. Sophia would fit into just about any situation and will make a wonderful family pet.

If you would like to add Sophia to your family, please submit an application for consideration.
