My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tall, dark and handsome galoot - a perfect description for this two-year-old boy of around 70 pounds. Homer is a wonderful Black Lab (perhaps mixed with Great Dane and/or Doberman Pinscher). Homer is mostly Lab in personality - on the go, playful, and with a good instinct. He gets along well with most of the other dogs here in his foster home, but he can be a little 'in-your-face' for a couple of the older dogs. He has a bit of a prey drive and so little dogs and cats would probably not be great in his new household.

Homer is neither dominant nor submissive - just a good middle-of-the-road personality, but he does not like it too much when other dogs tell him what to do. Homer loves the attention of people but is not a velcro dog. He is energetic and spunky and may actually make for a great hunting dog - his nose is to the ground quite frequently and birds catch his eye most of the time they are near. He is good on lead but not great YET, he is very responsive to correction, just a tad forgetful momentarily when he smells something he just can't ignore.

We are looking fora home and family for Homer where his people will take him for walks and/or runs, and they are strong enough to handle him on lead. He is a big boy after all.

If you are interested in meeting Homer, or getting more information about him, please visit our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org - and click on Adoption Process. There you can read about what we need from you and you'll find the link for our online Adoption Application.

All potential adopters are expected to complete an application and provide pictures of their yard, patio, and/or balcony making sure we can see the fence line and/or railing. The application can be completed and submitted from our website - throwmeabonedogrescue.org - and is found under Resources. Applications will be reviewed for approval before setting an appointment to come meet and possibly adopt the dog of interest. In addition, those who live in a rental property are expected to provide proof that they are allowed to have a dog where they live. Each of our rescued dogs has been de-wormed if necessary, de-flea'd (with topical treatment if old enough, and by medicated bath if too young), spayed/neutered, microchipped, is up to date on shots, and has been fully examined by a veterinarian. In addition, each adopted dog comes with a starter baggie of the food it has been eating, a few treats for training purposes, a rawhide chew, a lead and collar, and a folder containing pertinent records.
