My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Coby is a wonderful little companion. He is a very loving little dog who enjoys everyone. He is great with other pets and people of all ages. Due to his background, he is still afraid of being crated and needs someone that is home more often than not. He would be great for a family with young children and would enjoy having other pets in the home for companions. Coby is a young dog approximately 1 1/2 - 2 years old. He is really soaking up all the love in his foster home and learning that life can be something wonderful. Coby currently weighs 27 lbs so a nice size for a family pet.

Here is what his foster family had to say.

Coby is extremely sweet and affectionate and is such a cuddle bug. He is really great with other dogs, as well as cats and enjoys children of any age. Coby just loves everyone and enjoys any attention that he can get. He is a very loving little dog that deserves to have a family that loves him back just as much. He is a healthy boy although he does love to eat so free-feeding doesn't work well for him. He still acts like very meal is his last so we have put him on strict feeding times so he doesn't overeat. He has a moderate energy level which is great because he is not too much for young children but has enough energy for a good walk and playing with other dogs. Coby has been very social and friendly with everyone. The only time he shows any shyness is with strange men but even then he warms up quickly. He is great with cats and dogs. He plays all day with our dog Riley it is adorable! He would make any dog or cat a very happy companion.

Coby is just the sweetest dog but he is still very scared when he is left on his own. If you are gone for long hours during the day he would end up getting himself into trouble if left on his own. At the same time, he is terrified of being crated so instead he would need a safe room to be left in with lots of indestructible toys. The best thing for Coby would be a family where there is another friendly dog in the house so he always has someone for company. Even a friendly cat that liked dogs would be good for Coby. The best of course would be someone that was home more often than not and that was willing to be patient and work on Coby getting used to his family coming and going. I think his time in the shelter has caused him to be stressed when left on his own but we have seen much improvement in this area and we are sure that with patience and a little extra training, Coby will come to know that his family will always come back.

Coby is not a dog that needs much in the way of reprimand. Just a stern voice will make him respond instantly and stop whatever he is doing. He is a food hound so he will try to steal food or will beg when we are eating but we just tell him "no" and he listens straight away. He has learned some basic commands such as "sit", "come", "no" and "leave it". He would be a great candidate for obedience training as he reacts very well to positive reinforcement and because he loves food he is easily to train with treats. He is fully house trained other then when he is left on his own for long hours and then he may go in the house. He is not crate trained. We tried for the first week but he is much better now that he isn't being crate trained. He is great on the leash, he just pulls a little bit. He is a hound and does like to sniff around and would need a yard with a secure fence or he would wander off. He rides great in the car and loves going for car rides. He is actually great whenever he is with someone. He is very quiet in the home and rarely barks.

Coby is the kindest of dogs, a sweetheart and so loyal. Anybody would be lucky to have this amazing dog. He would love a home with another dog or cats. He needs a lot of love and affection to make him feel at home but he will give you so much in return.

If you think you have room in your home and your heart for Coby, please submit an application for consideration.
